What are the wage figures for both? Also, I don't think either should get any money for representing their countries. Win bonuses and tournament prize money is fair enough though.

The silliest part is that they think they can make a high salary by being American soccer players.

They are comparing like for like when they don't compete in the same competition. Could easily apply this to youth tournaments and make the same argument.
