"Is McCain a hero or not?" isn't the most pressing question about the recent healthcare vote imo.
He was one of three Republicans who took the common sense stance of voting against an ill-prepared bill that would open the door to millions of people losing healthcare coverage and that "enjoyed" an 83% disapproval rating in a recent poll. Even a Republican, prevote, described the bill as a "fraud" - although he went on to cast his pusillanemous vote in favor of it anyway.
The real question is why so many Republicans continued to display such a blind, cowardly, doctrinaire and partisan approach when it came to voting. Only three Republicans ignored the petulant gaze of McConnell and put the good of the country before the good of their party. "Why so few?" is the real question imo. |
