Kepler was launched!!!

I am so excited to see what happens here. Previously we were only able to see large gas giant planets, this telescope will be able to detect planets like our own... This is one of the most interesting times for us as humans. I know the probability of life on other planets is 100% but this will make that a visual 100%. Maybe I'm just over excited I don't:clap: know.

Well maybe its not a big deal yet but it wil be

khfreek 03-07-2009 09:15 PM

You obviously have no idea why I quoted that specific statement.

Yukon Cornelius 03-08-2009 10:58 AM

yeah i guess im stupid ? Why do you bother to post here with your nonsense. This is for ppl interested in the space program. Which is a current event and will go down in history. You wasting my time and anyone elses that might have such an intrest is Stupid. Enjoy being how you are but please, unless you want to say something related to this post you have no reason to post be here. Thanks again.

sleepy jack 03-08-2009 11:44 PM

He isn't "posting nonsense." The probability of something being 100% is itself an oxymoronic statement, because probability isn't definitiveness it's about likelihood. That is just semantics however, if we examine that statement scientifically we'd see it has no basis for it whatsoever as nothing about lifeforms on other planets is one-hundred percent proven.

Guybrush 03-09-2009 07:39 AM

Well .. I think it's exciting as well :)

dac 03-09-2009 10:18 AM

I hope we find some aliens; I really want to see the Catholic Church's response to something like that.

Sleepy Jack you are 100% right and alive. Also with the infinate number of Stars in space that have there own solar systems you would be not only selfish but a fool to think that this is the only planet that harbors life. It just makes sense... Thats of course my take and 99.9 % of scientists out there. Give me about 2 to 3 years and I will tell you that I told you so.

What is the possibility of life other planets? « Ask an Astrobiologist « NASA Astrobiology

Their response would probably be to make sure the aliens aren't using contraceptives.

You're contradicting yourself. You're now saying it's incredibly likely for there to be life on other planets. Earlier you were saying it was 100% earlier, which would make it a fact. It isn't a fact that there is life on other planets. Which is all I stated.

Give it up Mr. Yukon, sleepy jack is right. In fact, nothing is 100% certain. Even if they do find life, you can't know for sure that they're not lying or even that your life is not actually just a dream. ;)

However, I agree that it is likely. Before, people thought that life was rare. Since then, beliefs have shifted and life is often more or less thought to pop up if it can. There's a lot of stochasticity, but even unlikely scenarios may become likely when repeated over potentially billions of years.

Yukon Cornelius 03-10-2009 06:32 AM

How are you 100% sure your alive??

Yukon Cornelius 03-10-2009 06:33 AM

Also, if nothing is certain how are you 100% right there must be some room for error.

And here begins the endless argument. Want to discuss what happens when an unstoppable object hits an unmovable object?

You're not.

You have wasted time on something so pointless... Its pathedic, on top of that you do this in virtually everyone on my posts. I dont really know what your mission is but mine is to disscus the Kepler project yours is to continue to press on with word game crap that really has absolutly no reflection or insight to the actual post. If you would like to continue on go ahead. I will ignore you. Its just sad.

sleepy jack 03-11-2009 09:34 PM

My "word game crap" is rooted in a disagreement with your original post. I don't believe life on other planets is "100%" as you stated it was. Why can't you elaborate on your own statements instead of resorting to petty attempts at internet character assassination?

So anyhow the kepler is pretty sweet. I can't wait to see what lies ahead.
