I know that upholding idealism can be hard in the face of practical reality, but I'm hoping I won't smack my kids when/if I have them.
Still, I'd say the very popular idea that kids will get unruly and impossible without corporal punishment is just a myth. Such punishment is just a tool in a parent's toolbag. Some parents use other tools. ;) edit : Corporal punishment also runs in families. Smacking passes on the tool. Maybe somewhere down the family line, it will cause harm even if your own punishment didn't. |
Some kids deserved to be kicked. So kick them.

I don't think there's a cut and dry answer. I think it should be a last resort. It was for me. I really fucked up if I got a spanking.

I think by and large physical punishment is unacceptable. To me it seems like it's teaching kids that might makes right and that violence is a good way to resolve a conflict.

Not a word from the parents? Is their silence louder than words..? http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/c...ower/think.gif
