I can see how that'd be comforting.
I can see why something like that exists for people who don't even know they need it because they're too fucked up to bear the responsibility for their own actions and the actions of humanity as a whole. So easy to justify the state of humanity when you've got a God pulling all the strings for "your own good".

These people don't want to know that we're responsible for our own destiny, and that it's not an infinite one.
Religion is a construction motivated by fear and cowardice.

That's why religion sickens me to no end.
That reason specifically.
I agree.

And it's not that I don't believe in god or an afterlife, the truth is I don't know nor does anybody know, but if there is a god I'd certainly hope it's not the "all knowing, all controlling" god people usually think of.

Heaven is a nightclub, Jesus is the bouncer, and guess what? You're name isn't on the list. Guess that makes hell a library, and Satan is just the bum who secretly lives in the reference section.

That is how I picture heaven.

Your soul goes to heaven, therefore so does what makes you who you are. So you won't forget time on Earth, but you will be now truely at peace with yourself and will join those you cared about on earth that are there.

Non-believers can say what they will, but don't take away a Christians right to follow their belief to whatever extent that may be. I am sick of people picking on Christians when there are just as many other religions that don't make sense either. You can call Christians 'stupid' but you'll be kicking yourself when you die if we end up being right about our beliefs. If you don't care about God or the religon then why talk about it?

The reason people pick on Christianity is because it's the largest religion besides atheism. about one 1/7 of the world's population is christian. Also, Christians have given themselves a reputation for trying to "save" others without asking if they want to be saved. Or just forgoing the saving and killing people who don't share their beliefs. Read: Crusades, Spanish Inquisition, Holocaust. I think people would give Christians a lot more leniency if they hadn't gone from being martyrs to the people who killed martyrs. Didn't Jesus want you guys to turn your other cheek anyway?
Also a lot of the more famous Christians happen to be conservatives, who'll use certain elements of the Bible to prove their political points. Which I find irritating to no end. Like using that section of Leviticus as an excuse to be prejudiced against homosexuals. Do you know what Leviticus also says? That if a daughter misbehaves you are allowed to sell her into child prostitution. And that you can't wear clothing made out of blended fabric. And that people with disabilities cannot become priests. There's really a whole bunch of stuff in there that would never fly today.

No. This is wrong on multiple levels. Both boobs and I have quoted parts of the bible where it pretty much says you forget about your life on Earth. Secondly your brain is where your memories are stored. This is why brain damage can cause loss of memory.

Also, this implies that people with alzheimer's are in the process of losing their soul, and possibly even on par with saying brain dead people don't have souls.

Nobody is trying to take away rights. We're just saying you're an idiot for having said beliefs.

We pick on those too.

Pascal was wrong. Get over it.

I wouldn't say I don't care. The existence of a god or gods would have lots of interesting scientific implications, and simply believing in them has social and potentially political impact.

Ok so does that apply to everything? Because America is one of the most powerful countries in the world we should pick on it? Can you see how ridicolous that sounds?

Musliums try to 'save others' too, but I don't see people going on about that.

As far as the way some Christians have behaved, it's not how they should have used their faith. We can't control the past, the Church group did a lot of bad things to get power and fortune, but that doesn't mean the whole religion is bad. You can't stereotype a whole religion (that has that many followers) because of what humans did, because God put us on this Earth as sinners and it's up to us to make things right.
