I have read the King James Bible from Genesis to Revelation. I have read the Quran and the Torah. I have read hundreds of Hindu Vedas, some Tripitakas from the Theravedas of the Buddhists, as well as having studied numerous Biblical apocrypha. I am not saying this to try to impress you, I am saying this to try to convey to you that I am not ignorant to religion.

I'm not claiming to have all the facts and knowledge of religion and it's efficacy and practices. I can only speak from my own personal experiences with religion, and from the research that I have done.

Religion boils us all down to the smallest possible factors, which are truly the largest factors in life. Why are we here? Where did we come from? What is our purpose?

These thoughts are on the mind of every human being at one time or another. Religion helps us to fill in the holes. It gives us a history of ourselves, and most importantly, a goal. Religion gives people something to believe in, and allows them to congregate with others who have a like point of view. It gives life a purpose.

Religion is just a creation to TRY and explain the unexplainable That is all. There is no purpose in life.

Your views are actually nihilistic, believing that there is no inherent purpose in life. It's ironic that denouncing religion has become it's own religion.

If there is no purpose in life, then why live?

Howard the Duck 04-07-2011 11:15 PM

life's a piece of shit when you really look at it?

I guess my views are.
Haha it has not become a religion.
Are you one of those people who tries to say atheism is a religion as well?

Just because I see no purpose to us being here does not mean I do not want to be here and live my life.

I'm surprised people aren't skyping their religion yet. Why go to church when you can eat your cheerios and shower while skyping your worship.

Atheism is not a religion per se, but it does not outright reject religion either (as you seem to believe). Atheism rejects the idea if deities. There are numerous religions that do not have (or require) deities and would fall under the Atheist category:

-Jainism
-Samkhya (and numerous other branches of the Indian/Vedic religions)
-Satanism
-Secular Humanism
-Taoism
-Baha'i (certain Neo-Islamic sects)
-Numerous Neo-Paganist religions (mainly the Nordic sects)
-Thelema
-Theosophy
-Pantheism/Panentheism (believing that "God is everything" or "Everything is God," rather than viewing him as a specific deity to be worshipped)

So what should you get out of this? Well, hopefully you will do a little bit of research before spouting off your ignorant beliefs (keep in mind that "ignorant" is not being used here as an insult, but rather referring to the vast array of things that you are clearly unaware of). And secondly, it is quite apparent that you have no idea what you truly believe. Sit down, do some reading, form a well thought opinion on your own views of the world, and then you can contemplate criticizing other peoples' beliefs.

I never said atheism rejects religion. Do not put words into my mouth. Because I am an atheist and I also think religion is a sack of **** that should be destroyed you automatically make an idiotic assumption that I believe atheism rejects religion? LMAO look in the mirror before you call someone ignorant.
I know what my views are buddy. Do not try to tell me that it is apparent I do not know what I truly believe because I do. I see no purpose to us being here. I do not believe in God. I am still alive because I enjoy living. It is that simple. Or do I need to believe in some mystical sky wizard for you to accept my views?
Quit your bull**** and shut up.

Ya it's true. Religion and a belief in deities are separate. Therefore an atheist can belong to a religion. But when I look at religions, they all require faith in something supernatural, which is what I object to on the same grounds I would reject to a belief in a deity.

This whole thread has gotten really off topic.
