The Tea Party Movement

I'm sure those of you who are Americans have heard of them. So, what do you guys think of them?

someonecompletelyrandom 03-22-2011 06:46 PM

I'm pretty sure whatever credibility they're trying to establish for themselves now was destroyed indefinitely by the racism they sponsored from the beginning.

It's weird man it's like...it's just tea...but it's MORE than tea, it's all stupid sitting around drinking tea and eating scones but if you earn the break it's like...man...we earnt this break. it's like downtime...and you can do whatever the hell you want so have some tea cos tea is good but like...you've gotta get your priorities in order, it's still only tea

I'll play the devil's advocate here... Do you think it's possible that the media took the racism that was exhibited by a few Tea Party members and blew it out of proportion? After all, the media tends to have a liberal slant (although to a lesser extent with CNN and BBC).

Oh right lol I thought we was talking about actual tea parties I see now you're talking about politics or something

I'm going to play a little bit of Devil's Advocate here:

(Disclaimer: I did not vote for Rand Paul in the Senate race, nor do I claim to support his ideology.)

When Rand Paul, the main figurehead of the Tea Party Movement commonly cited as being racist, made his racist comments, they were taken out of context.

Really, he should have explained himself better, but he wasn't attempting to imply that he, himself, is a racist. What was meant that as a Libertarian ideal (which was the original group behind the Tea Party this time around) you would never vote for anything with which the GOVERNMENT would place restrictions on what business owners and the like can or cannot do with their business. His issue wasn't that the Civil Rights Act was aiding African Americans; his issue was that the Government was doing it.

I'm personally not a fan of the movement, (clarification: Tea Party, not Civil Rights) but I don't think Rand Paul is a racist, either. He would have said the same thing if it was an act for a group he personally belonged to.

Ok, the Tea Party's point is that there's too much government restriction on business. Which makes them a bunch of morons for the fact that we have a weak government which has basically sold itself out to all these businesses. If anything, our country is ****ed because our government is weak, and less government just means more power to business which means a bigger wealth gap.

Basically, the Tea Party is just a way for the most fascist pinko-paranoid section of the Right wing to stir up trouble for attention, and if they had their way, we'd be pulled into the stone age. Our economy would crumble, and China would basically just step in with their infinitely more powerful government, economy, and equally powerful military might.

I'm independent, and I love tea.

Oh for sure, I won't even argue that. But to me, when the majority (or at least a large sum) of a political movement's supporters are... questionable, on a race relations level - there's just damage there that's beyond repair. I don't think anybody will look at the Tea Party movement without those images of racism and cringe worthy "AMERICA!!" ignorant slogans.

crukster 03-22-2011 07:50 PM

They should haul the party over and make it racially friendly

"You can have your tea with milk. You can have your tea without milk. White tea...black tea...

We're all tea."
