Default Americas Prison Systems

I just watched a documentary on a inmate who smuggled a camera into his cell and was able to record some lengthy footage of various cases of abuse. The intent was to reveal to the world the abuse these inmates take from the guards on a daily basis. If your immune or ignorant to what really goes on in prison or jail and have never been exposed or endured any of these types of acts or circumstances (like maybe visiting jail or prison) you may very well be shocked. Its not the safe haven of your home where you can talk tough on your computer from the safe confines of your home, while mommy and daddy furnish your supply of cheetos and Ps3 games. If you've ever done any kind of time you know the rules of the world and civilazation dont apply on the inside.
Its not your average lockup show where the guards and inmates know that they are being recorded. So its not a fabricated run of the mill goin through the motions of following procedure type show. Guys are severley beaten and dragged down stairs among many other acts of violence.

Of course you have to remember these guys broke the law to get sent to prison but does that automatically mean that they should be abused? Some even beaten so badly that as a result it causes death??
I was just curious as to what others thought on this topic.............

As I've written before, I think it's any rule enforcers job to live by the rules they are supposed to uphold. Guards who illegally beat up inmates should lose their job, I think. Aside from the harm they do to specific people, I'm sure their beating of prisoners adds nothing positive to society.

it's their fault why they went to prison. honestly, i could care less to what happens to them. they broken the law of us living in the normal community, now, they must face the consequences of their actions.

i don't have the slightest pity towards these criminals who instigated violence to normal citizens. i wouldn't want a robber, murderer, rapist, drug addict, etc. to be doing a pretty good time in prison. i expect them to be living everyday hell inside jail so they'll realize how they were such stupid pr*cks on the normal community.

just an opinion though.

Just because they are incarcerated doesn't mean that society can write them off and disregard their wellbeing. This is an interesting story, most of the violence that I have heard of inside a prison/jail is either inmate-on-inmate or inmate-on-guard. The guards do have a very dangerous job, but that doesn't give them the right to use unnecessary force or outright abuse. Sadly, there's really no course of action that the inmates can take, as they can't just report what a guard did to another guard, as it would be pretty much futile. That really only leaves attacking staff members as their only recourse.

Prison is a completely different world, society's rules go out the window from the get go. My mother used to be a security guard at a maximum security men's prison when I was young. I was scared every single day when she would go to work that I may never see her again. I know that personally, if there was even the slightest bit of danger posed to her by an inmate, I would want the other guards to but a bullet in his head, but my opinion is obviously skewed as I have a dog in the fight.

seriously, you want human rights for inmates that have proven they don't give two ****s about the human rights of others?

I know there are wrongful incarcerations and they will get caught up in the statistics but I'm not sympathetic to their suffering of inmates overall.

i understand you but i can't just feel pity for these criminals. for instance, drug dealing. we see it on media, they taught us at school, everyone knows that drug dealing is illegal, yet, some people just don't listen and carry on with being drug pushers/users/carriers. every bit of information how dealing with these things results to jailtime, yet a lot of them still do it. now when they're caught and sent to jail, they complain of maltreatment, violence against them, etc. etc. why is it so hard for them or some people to comprehend that illegal activities have corresponding punishments and if you're caught with one, deal with it. prison for me, i know, is not like an ordinary place where you only serve time. if someone killed my loved ones, god forbid, i want that killer not just serve time in prison, but serve a pretty hell-sh*t time full of everyday beating, abuse, starving, raping, torturing prison. that will serve them right.

Prisons here are supposed to rehabilitate people, not train them to become worse criminals than they already are. I assume people have similar ideas in the US. A culture that allows guards to beat up inmates will obviously counter rehabilitation and nurture further distrust against the authorities, not just by the beaten, but by just about everyone made aware of and threatened by it.

What are the rates for rehabilitation in your country?

The rehabilitation rates in our country are friggin awful. It doesn't work and prison isn't a good place to go for that.
