It was streaming live, it just finished a little while ago. Here is the video of it. Video: Jeff Mangum plays Occupy Wall Street « Consequence of Sound Beautiful. |
Why is it beautiful? "Occupy Wall Street" is a crass mob movement. I've yet to read one apology for those folks that makes any sense, example:

...I mean, what? Really? Linking the Greek financial crisis to Tunisia? Pretending the USA and Canada don't have massive social safety net programs? Really, if they want to protest, fine, but the moment they start blocking traffic I do hope the police will do as they did on the Brooklyn bridge and arrest the lot of them. |

Then, please, Buzz, enlighten me. Why should I support this "occupy wall street" movement?

No.
But could we please avoid the rhetorical questions, one line posts, and get into the policy reasons why i should support this movement? |

Though the movement, and its goals, are not clearly defined, I think their ultimate goal is to achieve greater financial distribution equality in the United States. We are ranked #93 in the world for income equality (Source), just above Mexico and just below Iran and China-- surely a shocking data point for one of the most developed and prosperous nations in the world. The bottom line is, if you are not part of the top 1% (those making about 380 grand per year), you should support this movement because it's in your best interest to fight for greater wealth equality in the United States. |

Please, be lengthy in your answers. Quote:
EDIT: Also, unless I'm missing something, the $300k figure deals with household income. For a single person the figure would be $150k. |

To illustrate; if you were arguing for completely equitable wealth distribution, I'd point out how this would not provide an incentive for people to take on extremely difficult schooling or become involved in professions which are highly stressful. If you were arguing for partial equity in wealth distribution, my argument would be along the lines of: Quote:

I've been in OccupyBoston this whole weekend, it was pretty awesome seeing so many people support it. Of the people I talked to, it seemed pretty much based around the reforming campaign finance so financial institutions don't get completely deregulated, so we don't have massive recessions like we did ~2008. There is some luddy socialism in their but it's just traces. It's more reactionary anger towards the recent butt-buddying of government/corporations, regardless of party. BTW bunny, to me it seems like you are investing far too much time and effort debating political theory. Relax, nothing turns off people more than an angry person yelling politics. |
