Still it seems strange to me why reason the protest was left out in that article. It seems regardless of their intentions it should be automatically assumed wrong, and it's such a grand thing to offer them tea and biscuits. While on the other hand you some one like Omar Bakri who openly supports violent murder. And who is there to correct his views?

Maybe Shimon Peres should invite Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to Isreal for some hamantaschen.
Ah ok, well the EDL have been demonstrating and protesting here since the Woolwich murder, yes. Basically, the way I see it, and the way lots of other people see it, including Lee Rigbys family and regiment, is that they are exploiting the event for the benefit of their own agenda and at a time where they hope certain buttons have been pushed and they may just be able to increase their exposure and membership.

Thats why I questioned the connections you were making, cause obviously in this instance they are largely irrelevant. I felt the York mosque story was a nice, albeit small gesture, as the EDL are basically challenging one of set of extremist views with their own.

@neapolitan, the decrepit ideology these people harbour requires a sort of vast right wing bugaboo to be viable in their own minds. Hence why a thread about a terrorist act in London got derailed in such a manner. The manner with which they deal with such problematic examples of Islam is by just pointing to (what they feel is) a far right wing group, claiming that's a bigger threat, that's why Islam is so problematic, etc, etc. It happened immediately in this thread, and it will continue, until this epistemic closure of theirs is shattered.

Sikhs also have a propensity for carrying around ceremonial daggers, and the symbol with which identifies their faith... is a collage of weapons.

Seems like a good reason to carry a ceremonial dagger to me, Sikhs sound like total badasses

I don't think Islam is the problem, so much as militant Islam is, but the same can be said for any religion whatsoever.

However, I don't think it's right to deprive people of their right to worship whatever deity they choose to, as long as they're not infringing on the rights of others.
