we have got to get together!

i'll be dropping by my uncles house for just an hour and then driving to LA on thanksgiving

in all honesty my mother and my sister are at ends and are driving me nuts....thus the two of them in a room together mixed with booze is just a bad scene

hopefully they get it together by christmass

That'd be the real tragedy.

See, that's the thing. I'm so tired of eating it every year even if it's just once per year that I nipped that in the bud. My Thanksgiving tradition consists of me trying out different Italian dishes.

anyways Happy Turkey Day to those that still eat that dreck.

That gif is amazing! It's weird that NZ doesn't have a thanksgiving because Europeans came to settle in NZ nearly 200 years ago.

Do Indians practice thanksgiving? This might be a stupid question but I wonder how that makes them feel?

I think Thanksgiving is generally a Canada and US thing, although we celebrate at different times. In Canada, Thanksgiving is always the second Monday in October.

ladyislingering 11-28-2013 12:39 PM

I sort of feel like Americans should go to the casino on Thanksgiving, sort of like an apology for our anglo-saxon ancestors being super jerks and destroying Native American families and their property.

Yeesh, that gif totally reminds me of that chicken thing from the dinner scene in Erasherhead.

Well, like the US, while it can be traced to the early settlers, the official holiday wasn't proclaimed until relatively recently

^ It's because of the earlier harvest.

No thanks. I'm neither frivolous with my money, nor guilty for someone else's actions.

I have to agree. We have a similar situation here in NZ because the European's took over the country and forced the Maori out of there lands and introduced them to tobacco and alcohol. To this day they have been trying to get their lands back but its very difficult for the government to give it back to them (I'm not sure why). It's not fair to blame our current generation because out ancestors stole their land. I do however think we need to respect them and their beliefs.

butthead aka 216 11-28-2013 07:55 PM

Don't get me wrong, our treatment of the Native Americans is one of the few things that can get me pissed off, but just about everybody in every country on Earth is probably living on stolen land that they acquired by killing/forcing out/conquering someone else. So, while the actions of my ancestors might have been despicable they were in no way out of character as far as the rest of humanity is concerned and attributing that kind of thing to white people or Anglo-Saxons alone isn't logical. I know you were joking, but I just felt like saying that.
