Someone please tell me exactly what that means? Which era of America are these folks referring to? The 90s? 80s? 70s? 40s? 1837 thru 1841?

Be specific about what that slogan actually means.

It means we've seen and heard it before...

Obviously he's a comedian and one I enjoy, but that's a pretty shameless attack on a large amount of people.

Maher is the most sensitive host/comedian I have ever watched. If the audience makes a single sound that doesn't vibrate with enthusiasm for everything he says he freaks. He doesn't get that not every joke is meant to be greeted with laughs and applause. He doesn't get it that the audience is groaning at the situation not his joke or acting a little shocked because he says things that beg that reaction. I like him but he seems kind of narcissistic. Like I would not want to have a beer with him.

Maher is kind of douchey. I much prefer Christopher Hitchens for cynical comedy.

I know Hitchens wasn't a legit comedian, but his cynical indignance was the most entertaining thing about him.

You have anything to back that up? Or do I just have to believe that older Americans are largely massive flaming racist, as opposed to being nostalgic or legitimately thought America was better in the 50's.

Maybe the 50's was better for them. Maybe their experience was more communal and fun. These kind of attacks only furthers people's dislike of Liberals/Leftists that use shaming tactics to win arguments, as opposed to facts and objective reality.

Legitimately thinking the US was better in the 50s and being a flaming racist aren't mutually exclusive things.
