30 Years Ago Today.

Watching this live on TV was surreal. The reason the launch was such a big deal was because of the civilian teacher on board. I was literally brought to my knees as what happened became obvious.

Holy crap. Seriously 30 years? I'm old.

I didn't say anything but I was acutely aware of the day, 1/27/86 was my 28th birthday, Challenger was the next day.

Also, on my 9th birthday 1/27/1967





Then, shortly (4 days) after my 45th birthday

Watched Columbia breaking up live too.

No you didn't....^ you saw a syndicated rerun like 95% of ppl. Same with 911, and Oswald. Unless you were watching it launch, Oswald being brought in, or hell 911 was reruns at that point until second plane hit then it was live for like a minute .Very few things on tv are actually live.Have you ever contemplated what youd do if you heard beeeeeeep......this is NOT a test.....

Also it aint blow up it caught fire from within .Astronauts and the teacher were still alive for like 2 minutes or somethin.

Woman, what on God's green earth are you talking about? Both the Challenger launch and the Columbia breakup were broadcast live. The Challenger cabin did survive the initial explosion and at least some of the astronauts were conscious for a bit but they're not certain if the cabin held pressure during the entire fall. Either way they hit the ocean at over 200 MPH which was the official cause of death.

The entire Columbia crew died almost immediately after the main cabin broke apart.
