Well, yesterday there was a parliamentary vote, and for the first time in three years, there's majority support for one specific Brexit deal. To me that means the fight is pretty much over. Britain will be leaving the EU and our trade, travel, economy and society will change significantly for generations to come. Not only that, but on the same day a woman wore a purple dress - and this paper, for one, struggled to decide which item was more important:-

I hear you on the purple dress but as an American I think I know first hand that you can only watch a circus for so long. Purple dress, yellow hat, stolen umbrella- whatever else is on.

Yeah people don't actually engage with democracy. We just watch it. And then election day is like a beeper going off and we realize we have to make a call. Or not.

I don't think it's over, Lisna. Expect more delay, amendments and a general election. End of January is possibly the new Brexit date. Enough time for an election.

^ I'd take heart from the prospect of a general election, Fluff, but doesn't every prediction say that Johnson will win? If that happens all talk of a Second Referendum will look even more like the undemocratic sore-loserism that OH is already calling it.

I'd like to see Corbyn, or other Labour leader, stand clearly on a Remain platform, so that a general election effectively serves as a Second Ref. Labour will sweep to victory, Brexit will be forgotten and I could tell OH, "I told you so." That's my dream.

The Batlord 10-23-2019 05:51 PM

Even if that happened I'm sure all of Europe is so done with you people that you'll suffer at least a century of being persona non gratis.

Lisnaholic 10-23-2019 06:35 PM

Yes, I can imagine that too. I'll be strangely happy to hear about how Brit tourists find themselves snubbed in the streets and restaurants on the Continent (or as Brit soldiers used to call it in WWI, The Continong)

The Batlord 10-23-2019 07:01 PM

The Continong? No wonder everyone hates you.

A GE serving as a pseudo referendum is not the best way. Look where the GE that May called in 2017 got us. The problem with a GE on a single issue is where does that leave Conservative voters who want to remain. Alternatively, Labour voters who want to leave are also in a quandry.

Sort a single issue out with a single issue election: a referendum.
