While paying tribute to retiring Sen. Minority Leader Harry Reid, Hillary Clinton called upon Americans of all political parties to help solve "the epidemic of malicious fake news."

My comment was referring to the presidential election — not voting in general. I thought that was evident due to the thread title, but I should've specified.

I vote in most of my local and state elections.

Education and a sense of responsibility from Facebook would be a start.

That's if you want to put faith into Facebook to not completely corrupt what news it reports to fit it's agenda. I wouldn't, I seen the movie about Facebook being made.

I personally am sick of all this fake **** being reported too, but there comes a certain point where you have to quit blaming the media outlets and the social networking sites and start blaming the stupid ****ing people that share this **** with out looking into it further because it fits their political views.

Goofle 12-11-2016 02:30 AM

Hillary Clinton is fake news.

There is no constitutional clause that forces the electors in the Electoral College to abide by the popular vote of their state. That being said, there are safeguards (i.e. penalties, fines, incarceration, etc.) in place in 29 states to make sure that they do.

Although this is true, it's pretty much an idiotic ideal that if they disagree with the choice, they get fined for it. Isn't the electoral college there to have the safety of our country a priority? If they vote for something that they feel is a breach of that safety, why bother having the electoral college?

Frownland 12-15-2016 01:43 PM

Right? If you're going to be an oligarchy, at least go balls out with it.

The Electoral College is supposedly in place to ensure that all states, regardless of size, are "fairly" represented. If the election went STRICTLY by the popular vote, one would only have to campaign in and win a handful of major metropolitan cities in order to win the election, thus leaving the remaining 80%+ of the nation without a voice. That is the best explanation that I have heard, anyhow. For the record, the Electoral college is bunk.

I think popular vote is clearly the fairest way. Maine recently implemented ranked-choice voting, which, in my opinion, is tantamount to giving each voter more than 1 vote, which again, is bunk.

Which ends up happening anyways, that's why they campaign and tour hardcore in battleground states and **** the rest of the states that aren't on their radar.

Might as well, either way a large group of people will be ignored while campaigning.
