I definitely lack the attention span. 1 dragon ball z fight is literally like 30 mins long and 25 of those minutes they're just standing off

Lol I swear that spirit bomb Goku was charging to beat Frieza lasted an entire season. And Frieza just stood there basically the whole time either mocking him verbally or having internal dialogue of fear and doubt with himself.

You're probably right - I don't think I'd have the patience to watch all of it today, but it captured my attention when I was young. That's one of my main problems with all anime - too much damn filler. And hell no, I'm not reading a manga - the stories aren't that good to begin with.

See when i was a teen i had friends who watched dbz - one of them def fit into the black dbz nerd category. Though he was Haitian. But i knew people who weren't anime nerds but still watched it too. But regardless anytime anyone would try to get me to watch it with them i would be bored pretty quickly. It just didn't appeal to me.

I think I've been recommended more adult themed anime like ghost in a shell and i maybe made it 10 minutes in .. the format isn't exactly conducive to putting me in any kind of serious mood. I mean it's not like any adult animation from America i would watch is meant to be serious like that it's all just dumb comedy.

Serial Experiments Lain is a trip. That's probably my favorite anime series. No filler, all killer. Not that action packed, and requires some patience, but it's great.

Does seem better than dragon ball z but probably still not quite my style of show just based on this clip. I think maybe the whole "cartoon martial arts combined with magic" schtick doesn't interest me. Maybe that's why i never get into anime. Though i haven't really tried that hard...

Fighting shonen (which is what that genre of anime is called) always start out as a manga series before being very quickly adapted into an anime series, because of the different rates at which they are produced anime adaptations have to do two things to avoid getting too far ahead of the manga, one is filler episodes, sometimes even entire seasons of filler, the other is drawing things out as long as possible so the manga has time to catch up, which is why that kinda anime suffers from those pacing issues.
