Psy-Fi, that's quite the graphic. If that's true, I can't say I'm surprised.

Speaking of colleges, can someone explain this to me please? Why are US universities called colleges? Nobody ever says "I'm going to university in the fall". It's always "I'm going to college in the fall". I once asked my American mother in law. I don't think she was too happy with me asking the question.

College's are for liberal arts, University's are everything else.

Don't quote me on that.

In Britain, only universities can offer degree-level courses, and many students would talk about "going to uni".

Colleges are a more diverse bunch of institutes. I studied at one called The Hammersmith College Of Art And Building, and I always liked its rolling, old-fashioned name: long and specific the way book titles used to be in the past. Some others that I like:-
Westminster Gas Light And Coke Company (where my mum was a secretary), now reduced to the utilitarian "British Gas"
Pacific Gas And Electric
Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - well, you get the idea.

...and more on-topic: Go Joe Biden! Calling out the destructive craziness of the MAGA GOP at last.

I've never heard an American say "I'm going to university" regardless of the school.

They might refer to the school as a university but they won't say I'm going to university. That's a British way of saying it.

That's entirely possible. It was something that bugged me in my younger days.

That's an interesting take on loans, forgiveness being regressive, I mean.

I wasn't eligible for loans when I got to university, then college. I was lucky enough to stay home. I worked a ton of hours (40-50 a week) from the day after the last exam, to the day before school started up again. I'm thankful I didn't get loans. I don't think I would have been responsible enough to know what to do with that much money, say $5000 a semester. I saw a lot of people in my dorm party away most of their money.

The loan system we have isn't bad. It would be much more palatable if schools didn't charge so much.

And if your family is rich you don't have student loans. Not really that interesting.

But just having student loans probably on average puts you in a higher income bracket... having tons of student debt isn't a poor people problem it's a pretty middle class problem.

Though to me the best case for forgiving it is just that people have been completely raped on their tuition costs. But if we aren't going to are the cost only retroactively refund this one generation for their student loans while continuing to gouge the next generation I do see why that can come across as somewhat unfair.
