Perhaps one of the greatest produced albums and greatest use of special effects. People are going to kill me for saying this, but I can't rate it as their best album. I used to despise it because I didn't like the useless songs and disliked 'Gig', 'Money', 'Us And Them', but eventually loved it all. Still hate 'Any Colour You Like' though. They borrowed some stuff from previous albums so people look down on their other stuff because they hear this first.

So fricking amazing. Water's at his lyrical peak but they don't sacrifice words for music either. Features my favorite solo ever (Dogs) and Wright is in top form, and it contains some of the most angry lyrics...not your typical progressive rock album. This seems to be a short album but each of the three main songs are amazing and worth every second of the album.

I don't like 'Welcome to The Machine' or 'Have A Cigar'. 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond I-V' has moments where I am astounded by the sound they created. 'Wish You Were Here' is very good, but the other half of 'Diamond' underwhelming compared to the first part. Similar to Meddle like you said, great moments but bad moments too.

Yep. Meddle is sweet.

4 god awful songs and 7 I plain don't like. The best are pretty good though. They definitly could have condensed it to 15 songs and retained most of the plot line.

This is my favorite album by PF (Animal's 2nd) but only because I worship the way they mixed cosmic psychedelia with Syd's pop melodies.

I still have'nt got 'Music From The Body' yet ;)

I am honestly trying my best to get it on a digital format, but having no luck. The only vinyl I can get my hands on is scratched to bad to transfer. But i have a record shop that is gonna help me out.

I know you're just razzing, but I will get that for you.

As you can see, I really respect their early and transitional period.

Thanks for the time and effort put into these reviews. They made wonderful reading. I am a long time fan of Pink Floyd and purchased Dark Side Of The Moon on release as a 13 year old:o:. Time does not stand still sadly.

I have most Floyd albums, Barrett's 2 solo efforts and one apiece from Waters and Gilmour. I am going to go against the tide here but I consider The Wall a masterpiece. There is something about it's grand theater that attracts me. Sure some can argue as to some songs being weak but IMO the actual flow of the album makes those songs part of the whole as apposed to them being individual sound bites.

I can be a bit put of by mega selling superstars at times as I think that they can get away with inferior work but I have never generally thought that of Pink Floyd. Pipers At The Gates Of Dawn , Dark Side of The Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals and The Wall all for me are superbly strong from the start to the finish. Even the 2nd tier albums such as Meddle, Ummagumma and say Saucerful Of Secrets have very good highs. The review of The Final Cut was intriguing and I am tempted to grab it out now and play it for the first time in who knows how long. It was the first time that I had been disappointed with a Pink Floyd album. I recall thinking it soulless but after your review I am wondering if my love of The Wall may have tainted my view of The Final Cut.

As an aside I only ever caught them once in concert in 1988 at Brisbane Entertainment Centre. A cold venue that I despise. I remember being disappointed at the time but suspect that I was on my own on that one. Flying pigs seemed enjoyable to the vast majority of the audience.

I just finally read this series of reviews. Great job Jackhammer! We definitely have some differences of opinion on a couple Pink Floyd albums but I really enjoyed your reviews. One small thing I wanted to point out though: You mentioned in both you Final Cut and The Wall reviews that the lyrical content concerned Waters' grandfather dying in WWI. I'm not sure if his grandfather died in that war or not but the lyrics on these two albums are about his father dying in WWII.

Definitely Immortal! This sort of thing where an artist turns surreal life into timeless music is special.
