I'd say it's no more pretentious than having your Last.FM thingy in your sig. Which I don't find pretentious at all. Also, anyone who has a cat for an avatar (especially a Russian battle cat!) gets points from me! :thumb:

I don't really have any thoughts on anyone yet as I'm new, but so far everyone seems pretty cool.

As long as nobody's a dick for no reason, and I get some good music recs, I'm happy.

Also I'm trying to get more posts in so I can finally post youtube videos! I won't complain because it's not my site, I don't own it, but it is kinda silly that you can't post youtube links on a music website. I'm sure it has something to do with avoiding spam.

You can post youtube links, but just after you've posted enough to make it clear you aren't a whiny self-promoting douche or a spammy moron!

Trollheart 03-11-2014 06:12 PM

That's actually incorrect. People often get this wrong.
You can post youtube links as soon as you join: you just can't post links to YOUR OWN music or music you're trying to promote.
Click the "Wrap youtube tags around selected text" to the right, copy your youtube address (everything after but not including the "v="), paste it in between the two yt tags and hit post.

Right on, just tested and it worked. Thanks! It's kind of a pain in the ass though, hope once I get my post count up I can just copy paste directly.

The way you do it is how it's done regardless of post count.

Yeah that's exactly how it works, for you with less than 10 posts or me with over 5000. It's just how the system interprets it. You can't just paste the entire link as the system won't recognise it. In order for it to see it as a translatable video link you need the youtube brackets and everything after the v=. That's the same for everyone and is just how it's set up.

Thanks for the kind words. Yup, Paul's right!
In the 90's - ironically, on a non-music forum -
people would often ask each other what they
were listening to "these days" and people started
posting it as "N.P.:" followed by artist and title.

Over a dozen years ago, there were apps that
would integrate this with iTunes and this is what
I've used ever since (someone, last week, PM'ed
me here asking about this BTW). It's automatically
on when I'm actually listening to tunes and it's
added to emails as well. Funny, after 12+ years,
this is the first time anyone has ever said that they
had a problem with it (and extra weird that it would
happen on a music forum).

I think the "pretentious" label given to it is pretty
subjective and presupposes a lot that doesn't really exist.
It's not an attempt to wave the red flag of obscurity, but
just a piece of info that wouldn't be preternaturally
existent on a music forum post. I suppose that since
I now have a Last.FM sig., it's probably redundant
to have the "Now Playing" app running, so I'll probably
just stop displaying it here anyway...but that's the story
on the app.

best to all!

Now playing: Kylie Minogue - The Locomotion

I don't think it's pretentious at all for what its worth.

Also, nice track on this post. Talk about a counterexample.

Goofle 03-12-2014 04:18 AM

I think it was more of a nod to this post in fairness.

rostasi - I say keep it. My LastFM never synced correctly and I find it to be complete garbage.
