Have spent the last year trying to forget the decline of 'grime', haha. It had it's day, at least. It could have evolved, cross-pollinated within the dubstep family and gone somewhere pretty cool but all I am seeing now is the usual pro-tooled, club hip-hop/dance chart bait.
There was never any intellectualism in the grime scene, it was music of the moment. However it produced a couple of musical prodigies who have since pissed away any potential: Dizzee is dead to me after the first album, and Wiley went down the commercial dance route, lost his head and never found it again.
'Wearing My Rolex' was the final nail in the coffin imo, since then the London scene has become like a microcosm of mainstream hip-hop, just so f*cking tacky and the music is HORRIBLE. Like sub-So Solid Crew horrible.

Time to move on to pastures new... but keep an eye out for the shadier characters, producer/MC Dot Rotten might surprise one day. He is also, by many accounts, madder than David Bowie circa 1976. Esoterics, conspiracies and ting.
'Grime' is no longer a relevant term, producers are debunking to funky house, flipping up tempos, it's just a matter of time before a newer MC-driven sound emerges. Could be next year, could be ten!

Yeah, grime is dead. I liked grime mainly because the British rappers stopped trying to act completely American. I pop in Roll Deep and it sounds British. I pop in a new Dizzee, Kano, or Wiley track and it sounds American. I am not going to go to Britain to listen to what has already been perfected here.

Hip-hop, at least the lyrically based form has already been dieing. Kanye and all them have been killing it. I mean to sound cliche, but it will soon. All the new good hip-hop is gangsta ****. They have some good metaphors and flows, but I get tired of hearing about diamonds, cars, and gats. Then you have the alternative scene, which is also pathetically boring. I am tired of Lupe's "feel sorry for starving African kids" image. I just want hip-hop like The Cool Kids do it. It has to go back to being fun.

I think grime could survive, but seeing young talents like Chipmunk ditch it makes me doubt it.

I really like Chipmunk, I think the productions are fresh and original - with the best of hip-hop and grime. I really like Plan B too and I wouldn't be surprised if they are head to head soon!

Who do you think the better artist is?

I thought it might be worth re-surfacing Hadouken! here. It's been a long time since anyone mentioned them, and they have released an entire new album, which is a lot better than their original. Music for an accelerated culture is all very well, but For the Masses brings with it some absolute classics, like Play the Night, Lost, Ugly, Mic Check and House is Falling.

It's definitely worth "revisiting" Hadouken! if you haven't listened to them in a while.

I seem to rate the tracks differently to the way they do, though. They've released EPs for Mic Check, Turn the Lights Out, and M.A.D. so between me and them there's only 3 tracks on the album that haven't been mentioned explicitly.

I dived back into grime last night and I was discovering artists left and right that were new to me.

I have a pretty long list to go through.

It all started with this video and it's remix.

I basically picked out my favorites from these two videos and I'm working from there.

Does anyone know of any others I should check out?

I also stumbled across these two tracks that I ended up liking enough to replay a couple of times .
