Thievery Corporation

Following a small mention in a Reggae thread, I felt it was time to honour Thievery Corporation. Comprising of Rob Garza and Eric Hilton, TC are primarily DJ's, based in Washington D.C. Their sets at the legendary 18th Street Lounge consisted of Jamaican Dub, Brazilian Bossa Nova, Indian Vibes, Chilled Beats and sublime Rap. Eventually they began writing and recording their own music which incorporated all of these elements. What sets TC apart from a lot of their contemporaries is the championing of global music and a 'music first, band second' attitude, which has bought a number of quality mix albums and their own releases. ooo I'm down with that first video. I def like the more uptempo stuff they do rather than the super chill stuff. And I don't really like the tracks I've heard with girls singing for some reason. I'll have to check out those albums tho.

Yeah these guys are great, I would add "The Richest man in Babylon" to the recommendations list. |
Thievery Corporation
I'd like to carry on the appreciation of the musical talent of these boys, they make brilliant songs that mix elements of world music without the cringing "ethnicity" that much of world music contains with modern electronic sounds to great effect. They have a nack of sounding old & modern at the same time, superb stuff IMO.
If you've never heard these guys I'd check out first The Cosmic Game Then any other album none of them are duds. |
A friend up mine hooked me up with a few of their CD's, I haven't delved too far in yet, but I have liked what I heard.

I love thievery Corporation. I love the DJ Kicks album. It's up there with Kruder and Dorfmeister for the best DJ Kicks album!
