Heligoland has leaked. just so you all know :)

Something I'm waiting on the release to buy and listen, but I did here the new single called Paradise Circus on a show. Really liked the sound a lot. Sounded like they were really going back in time to their older sound.
Jeez, the youtube date for when this song was put up says, "4 weeks ago". How long has this been leaked? >< Crazy. |
Just wondering if anyone else has checked out this artist yet? I know Lee has because he commented on them in the 'last album you downloaded' tread. I cannot get enough of this song, just so perfect, so relaxing, so beautiful, and just so damn good. |
I stumbled across this trip hop group out of Glasgow. I haven't heard trip-hop this... dark... I really don't know any other way to describe it, but holy crap is this song ever captivating. |
great tracks Pete, both are new to me. just my style :D
here some of my recent discoveries - i'm working hard to keep the definition of triphop very fuzzy! |
Just for the record, DJ Shadow absolutely hates being labelled as trip-hop! Personally I agree though that his stuff is acceptable to throw into the debate, the term has become a bit of a discredited label I suppose but yeah, that first LP at the very least was strongly associated with the genre at the time.
Anyone heard anything on Manchester's Grand Central label? Again not strictly trip-hop maybe but we're talking downbeat electronica, straight hip-hop at times, often a fusion of those with funk/Northern Soul....you know, it's of that ouevre. The label went under in the mid 2000s sadly but left a great legacy. These are all well worth a look: http://wpcontent.answers.com/wikiped...albumcover.jpg http://www.discogs.com/image/R-150-10394-001.jpg Riton 'Beats Du Jour' http://www.plong.com/MusicCatalog%5C...Rae%20Road.jpg http://www.plong.com/MusicCatalog%5C...ula%20Band.jpg |
This is maybe the best starting point, the first 'Central Heating' compilation LP from their very early period. Terrific stuff. This is the original LP cover, the reissue has a different one I believe:

Arms & Sleepers are a new favorite band are tagged as Trip Hop.. is it true Trip Hop? Couldn't tell you! But I love it. I've never heard anything like them
|
Arms & Sleepers is great, but i'm not sure i'd call them trip hop.
they remind me a bit of Múm... been on a roll today finding new stuff. all the following have female vocalists, and range across the spectrum of trip hop. if you dig Portishead, be sure to check out the last two on the list. Endless Blue Silk Demise Lêndi Vexer Stervhïa |
I never explored trip-hop because the name of the genre just seemed like it would just be one of those "over the top" genre, but now that I've actually looked into it I can see that the name is very misleading. Thanks for this thread, I'm really enjoying all the beats posted. (:

she's got an album and an ep, both excellent. i also found 8 more tracks on a massive collection of unreleased Tricky stuff that's floating around, though the quality isn't so hot. but yeah, she's one of my favorite voices in trip hop :D |

Is it Trip Hop? Of course it is. Damn classic track:
|
I recommend Boards of Canada, they're pretty smooth. There is also DJ Shadow, but that's more turntablism. It definitely has that trip hop feel to it i think. but yea, there's a bunch of good stuff out there..
|
Lushlife by Bowery Electric has some damn fine spacey tracks on it.
|
Would Seals Killer be classed at trip-hop?

RJD2's "The Horror" and "Deadringer"
Also Bassnectar pretty much any of his stuff is amazing. |
Latest find. How gorgeous is this?:
Link available. |
I will keep going! Not quite Trip Hop but it's definitely got an Electronic Vibe. This is definitely worth hearing out. Superb track and album (Matador) :

Latest listen. Quite smooth but still delightful:

I'm in absolute love with this thread
Anyways, as a little contribution, here's a bit of Andreya Triana. Gorgeous voice and great production by Bonobo (another great trip-hop artist. I'd really recommend checking him out if you've never heard of him) :D. And since I mentioned Bonobo, here's something from his latest album. |
I REALLY like the Saltillo album. Are there other albums that are similar?
I have the Sunday Munich albums, and they're nice, but I prefer the Saltillo album. The strings and the hip-hop beats make a really good sound. |
Sounds like a Tricky Rip off- well he does guest on this track. A definite highlight of an otherwise average late 90's Trip Hop album. Bonus points for knowing the background track :) |

Dutch - A Bright Cold Day (2010) In case anyone is looking for a new trip hop album, I would highly recommend this one. It is a bit more "old school" in regards to the fact that it features a full band ensemble like Portishead, yet featuring female vocals and some very hypnotic beats. The group is composed of Liz Fullerton on vocals and Stoupe the Enemy of Mankind (of Jedi Mind Tricks fame) and if anyone is familiar with JMT then this creates a very nice contrast from Stoupe's more popular beats. Anyway it's been awhile since this thread has been updated so I figured if anyone is looking for some new trip hop, this is definitely an album to look at. |

A friend of mine out here is into Morcheeba and I can see why - dang good!
