A little Pioneering history:
 

For those who never studied the history of Electronic music may find this interesting.
Use of Electronic synthesizers dates back to the '60s.

One of the first groups to use the synthesizers was called Hot Butter, their hit Popcorn was a mix of analog synthesizers with standard instruments.

weren't the Doors and The Animals using Synthesizers back in the 60's?

Probably, I'm sure there were quite a few.
I was more looking at the group(s) who's main instruments were synthesizers.

Well, the Doors were definitely a band that used it as a main instrument. I don't know The Animals discography, I only know their classic/cover of Rising Sun. They definitely use a synth in that song.

Organ=\=synthesizer

I mean, technically tone wheel organs count but it's more correct to just call them organs.

Yes, I guess you could classify them in that category however, if you get down to the technical details, the orgiginal MOOG synthesizer is many steps above the basic organ.

No one, no one played anything. They were just putting on a show like all performers do.

Back then, everyone knew, but today, DJ's actually try to make people think they do stuff when all they really do is put in a CD and press the play button.

At least The Droids put on a better show than DJ's today that just play with disconnected DJ equipment while jumping in one spot and waving their arms in the air.

BTW, I noticed all early electronica was called Disco, but what came before Disco? Perhaps I'm not searching back far enough.

My guess is it was played for the Disco genre but then was later put into it's own catagory? Kraftwerk was not considered Disco..
