I maintain a substantial archive of remixes and original source material in both vinyl and digital formats so remix culture is quite a passion of mine.

I was glad to see Tristan post Underworld's "Born Slippy (Nuxx)" in this thread. :)

I'd like to continue Mindfulness' theme of remix documentary material so I'll offer a few exceptional examples.

If you haven't seen it before, there is an excellent piece titled, "Video explains the world's most important 6-sec drum loop" about the Amen break.

But my most favorite documentary series of all time is Kirby Ferguson's Everything Is A Remix miniseries expertly-produced in the video-essay style.

The series explores how everything, from the printing press to rock music to Hollywood blockbusters are all remixes of earlier materials. Ferguson offers the original 2015 version of his series for free on his YouTube channel.

He also offered a few minisodes between the releases of each installment. The Matrix episode was very well done.

Ferguson continued to refine and remix his own remix documentary releasing a new updated version in 2021 discussing newer content like Kanye West and Tik Tok. The first two installments are available for free on his website and YouTube channel.

Enjoy!

I don't think I've heard a remix of Barber's Adagio for Strings as chilled out as Akotcha's "Gosub".

"New Pork Recording's signing, Akotcha, released 'Sound Burger', named after the ill-fated early 80's portable record player, on 8th September 1997. Jude Aldred and Russ Jones have both been involved in the London and Brighton live music scenes, playing keyboards and guitar in a variety of bands. The two met up, and shared musical tastes led to them setting up a studio together...Their initial 4 track demo resulted in approaches from a number of labels, but Pork Recordings was singled out by them after hearing a couple of 12's by The Solid Doctor and Fila Brazillia, "they just blew us away" - Russ" (Source: description on Amazon.)

I particularly like the intermittent sonar pings and (what sounds like) synth bass :hphones:

Heard this about a year ago in a Clouds podcast, can't believe I didn't realize it was a Hyph11e remix of all things.

Love the 'documentary' stuff thrown in here. fan of the history of electronica as a whole. So my first entry in this thread is rooted in 1979 or so.

CLASSIC remix fave#1....

Queen of Disco meets electrotechno DJ. This is one of my all-time favorite remixes because it is so much better timed than other remixes of this song. Many remixes just can't get the loops length-edited correctly and they end up annoying me. But the samplings in this one are as perfect as they get.

(Warning, serious strobe-flashing in some parts of this video)

Donna Summer.

CLASSIC remix fave#2..... mashed up with Queen and the fly-girl boys :hphones:
