OK then , you`ve probably seen my Urban 100 and this is along those lines but a little different.

Basically , I think it`s time we started enhancing each others lives with things that have given us pleasure in our own lives , so this is what I propose to do.

The Cool 100 is basically going to be a list of 100 various Movies , Books , TV Shows , Albums & Video Games. Each of you nominate one of your favourites in any of those catagories and write a little bit about it & what makes it so great.And lets see if we can get 100.

I`ve seen people constantly bitching about this place ,about the flaming , the pointless threads and all the rest of it. Well in that case help contribute to this , share some of your passions & try & check out some of the recommendations in it.

And for God sake please don`t let this thread die on it`s arse.

Anyway i`ll start this off with .........

100. Withnail & I

This is one of my favourite comedies of all time.It`s about two out of work actors at the tail end of the 60s desperate to escape the squalor of their flat in Camden and get away somewhere on holiday.They approach I`s rich (homosexual )uncle Monty and ask him if they can borrow his holiday home in the welsh countryside,He agrees , and after several stops to a number of pubs they set off on their way, only to get there & find that the cottage is a run down mess. What follows is a very funny experience of booze , lack of food , hostile locals & cows and a live chicken.Then Monty arrives and to I`s horror discovers that Withnail got to use the place if Monty could have his way with I & then follows a hilarious scene where Monty tries to seduce I.
My favourite part of the film is the tea room scene when Withnail marches into the place & announces 'I want the finest wines known to humanity , I want them here & I want them now' he then gets totally pissed & announces loudly to the pensioners in the cafe that he`s 'going to install a jukebox to liven up you stiffs'
Eventually they get back to find their flat taken over by their drug dealer Danny & a giant african guy which causes Withnail to ask Danny 'Whats that spade doing in my bath'.
The acting in this film is top notch , Richard E Grant has never been in a better film , Paul McGann does a great job as I , who is basically a straight man to Grant`s Withnail & Richard Griffiths is totally convincing & sympathetic as Uncle Monty.
But the best thing about this film is it is so quotable such as 'SLAPPERS' 'F*cking ponce' 'Camberwell Carrot' & 'Chin Chin'.
Not a laugh a minute comedy , but gentle & it stands up wonderfully to repeated viewings.

99. The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fist Fight in Heaven

Never have I enjoyed a book as much as this. Its a collection of short stories that have the same main character (which is essentially Alexi) and how he as a native american is living in modern america. Some of the greatest story telling and prose poems rolled into one I've ever read. Some of the more interesting things to take into account is alot of the refreences Alexi has to the plot and story line going on in the background. If ever you encounter a person who says they don't like reading, I suggest you give them this book. I can never say enough good things about a book that made the most impactful foot print in my life.

Also, for the music lover in all of us, read the chapter "My Father always said he was the only Indian to see Jimi Hendrix play the Star Spangled Banner at Woodstock" (I may have that slightly off. But take into account Hendrix's NA heritage and what that song means to the country at the time, and what America means to Native American)

98. j.d. salinger - nine stories

the best short stories i've had the privelage of reading, salinger is my favourite author, my favourites are teddy and with love and squalor

i don't know how many of you people are in love with films, as for me, my passion for music is equal to that for films, i did quite a few reviews on films on my movie forum, many films i adore at the moment but i chose this one, it's about 2 turkish germans that meat in a hospital after the tried to commit suicide, the woman asks the man to marry her, for pretence, so she can escape from her oppressive family, the man agrees, they eventually fall in love and that has tragic cosequences in the end...it's a masterpiece, see it ( unless of course you don't like to watch movies with subtitles )

MONKEY ISLAND!!
fucking best game in the world!!
there are 4 of them.... first 2 ones are old, but the last one is actually 3D

and they're really funny!! and test your wit!!

and you have to fight with your sword by insulting the other in a way that it would rhyme with their insult.
for example: "You can't match my witty repartee"
"I could, if you used some breath spray"


and it's for everyone who loves pirate adventures... the graphic is like, really sweet... everything looks like a page in a book for kids.. like in a cute story

and Guybrush is the main character.. he's pretty lame and he wants to be a pirate. Like, once, he was looking on a brochure where it was a pic of a lady with big boobs and long hair and he goes like "Whoa.. look at the size of her.... ponytail"

When I first picked up this book, I found it impossible to put down.
I read it from cover to cover in one go, it was that good.
The book transports you into the mind of Frank, a young boy growing up on a small Island off the Scottish mainland.

This book left me mentally assaulted.

Beautifully written in 1947 by the Italian/Jewish writer Primo Levi.
The true story of his experience in Auschwitz.
He spent the remainder of his life coming to terms with his survival.

"The worst survived, that is the fittest, the best all died."

Consider whether this is a man,
Who labours in the mud
Who knows no peace
Who fights for a crust of bread
Who dies at a yes or a no.
Consider whether this is a woman,
Without hair or name

Sadly, Levi took his own life in 1987.

This has always been my favourite movie, I love the 50s/60s period, this movie broke my heart and showed the beauty of the human spirit, no matter how smart or dumb you are, you can make something of yourself. I cry every time I watch it. Every scene has something special about it, even just a feather falling down in the sky...

Tom Hanks says it all.

Then there is the soundtrack, all the classic, talented artists of the past, songs full of real emotion and meaning, they suited the movie like "peas and carrots".

Spaced is the story of 2 twentysomethings called Tim & Daisy who in desperation pretend to be boyfriend & girlfriend to rent a place to live. Written by Simon Pegg & Egdar Wright (The people resposable for Shaun Of The Dead) This for me is one of the best sitcoms in the last few years.The characters are ...

Tim Bisley (Simon Pegg) - A 28 year old comic artist who works in a comic store, crap skateboarder.Star Wars fan with a hatred of The Phantom Menace & Jar Jar Binks

Daisy Steiner (Jessica Stevenson)- Wannabe journalist who thinks of herself as some sort of bohemian writer, can`t hold a job down to save her life.

Mike Watt (Nick Frost) - Tim`s army obsessed childhood friend, was thrown out of the terratorial army for comendeering a tank & trying to single handedly invade paris.

Masha Klein (Julia Deakin) - Tim & Daisy`s landlady , acid casualty groupie from the 60s, tries to get off with anything in trousers.

Brian Topp (Mark Heap) - Lives in the flat below Tim & Daisy , pretentious tortured artist who paints pain , fear , anger etc etc.Has an 'arrangement' with Marsha about the rent.

Twist Morgan(Katy Carmicheal) - Daisy`s neurotic self centered best friend , works in fashion (A dry cleaners).

Basically just mentioning the plot of this doesn`t do it justice at all. One of the great things about this series is you can really see Pegg & Wrights love of movies. There are HUNDREDS of movie parodies in this but they are done in such a way they don`t become obtrusive to the stories , even the filming makes it look like a movie. None of the characters are unlikeable or annoying (Except Twist but she`s supposed to be)and come across as very normal despite some of their eccentricities.Some of my favouite moments include Tim & Mike building a robot to enter Robot Wars , Daisy going for an job interveiw at a high class womans magazine (called Flaps) and ending it by standing up & shouting 'GIRL POWER'.And the episode where Tim & Mike go paintballing & find themselves up against the guy who stole Tims girlfriend.Although my favouite moment is when Tim loses his job at the comic store for ranting at a little kid about wanting to buy a Jar Jar Binks figure he saved his pocket money for.

One of the best comedies on TV , I hope they make a 3rd series
