Gilliam's original cut of the film is 142 minutes long and ends on a dark note. This version was released internationally outside the US by 20th Century Fox.

US distribution was handled by Universal. Universal executives thought the ending tested poorly, and Universal chairman Sid Sheinberg insisted on dramatically re-editing the film to give it a happy ending, cutting out the reveal that it was all in Sam's mind, a decision that Gilliam resisted vigorously. As with the cult science fiction film Blade Runner (1982), which had been released three years earlier, a version of Brazil was created by the movie studio with a more consumer-friendly ending. After a lengthy delay with no sign of the film being released, Gilliam took out a full-page ad in the trade magazine Variety urging Sheinberg to release Brazil in its intended version. Gilliam soon conducted private screenings of Brazil (without the studio's approval) for film schools and local critics. On the same night Universal's award contender Out of Africa premiered in New York, Brazil was awarded the Los Angeles Film Critics Association award for "Best Picture". This prompted Universal to finally agree to release a modified 132-minute version supervised by Gilliam, in 1985.

Absolutely. One of the worst film abominations ever. I have this which includes all 3 plus tons of bonus stuff.

A bit disappointed that Trollheart chose Brazil to try and make some sort of point but isn't even fully up on the flick.

a happy ending, then you see this is all just a dream as Pryce has gone mad, lost it in the chair as he's about to be tortured and the "doctor" says "It's no good: he's gone."

I thought that was the only one. Didn't know there was a "happy one". Would have spoiled it I agree. Superb movie.

I only chose Brazil as a way of showing the kind of movies I'm into and why those other ones don't interest me. Also, I'm not one who buys, or watches, special editions/deleted scenes/director's cuts etc, so I would never have known about those. Just because I don't know everything about the movie doesn't mean I can't enjoy it. I mean, until I reviewed it I thought "Nineteen Eighty-Four" had been shot in black and white. But I still love that movie with a passion. I'm not a film nerd. I jsut enjoy watching films that make me think, and I love good, clever, intelligent writing. Ever see "Identity"?

Of course. I am a film buff. Question for you: I'm going to assume that you somewhat respect the opinions of Frownland, Batlord (the real one, not his alter ego), and me, right? So if that's the case, why be so dismissive of the three of us telling you that Office Space is really a great movie and that we all think you'd really enjoy it if you gave it a chance? Instead you're just brushing it off like you already know it's not worth your time.

And bringing up Brazil came across really pretentious seeing as you're basically calling those other movies low brow, and chose to use one of the most high brow movies ever made to hammer that point across.

Just take 90 minutes of your time some day and check out the movie.
