Because Coldplay has a penchant for plagiarism; and I read it in an article where he unashamely admits it. He was sued an indie band, the Creaky Boards, but if you heard their song it would remind you of New Order, so who's stealing from who? - right, you know what I mean?
I'm not saying the whole song is; I know each chorus in both songs take a different direction. I just think the melody of the verse and piano playing is very similar. Ironicly enough the Rulte's piano is more complicated then Codplay's, I think it is sad that a spoof band can out play Coldplay. So if you take the "left hand" part out and keep the right-hand part (of Cheese & Onions) it's almost the same quarter chords play at a slow tempo like in Violet Hill.
From the very first time I heard Violet Hill on the car radio, I knew I heard it somewhere before, I thought of every Beatle song, and then it hit me like a ton of bricks it's the Rutles.
