Monogamous relationships are only the norm these days because of Christianity. As it's no longer important, the amount of relationships someone has is really up to them and their partners. I know a girl on another forum who lets her boyfriend have another partner, because she thinks it's okay for him to do it as long as he still loves her. Not saying I could do that, but it's at least happening.

Not that I'm against the very idea of polygamy, but monogamy is the norm (as far as I know) in buddhist and hindu societies as well, and I'm sure others. If I had to make a hypothesis I'd say that monogamy seems to be an evolutionary trait. If you have better information than I do, feel free to crush my pitiful argument.

no, monogamous relationship is the norm no matter what religion you are. imagine a life were polygamous relationship is the norm, do you think kids would appreciate a fater or mother with another family outside their family? personally, i wouldn't want that.
