I don't think anyone would have found that funny. We probably had a little chuckle at the "I'm an ostrich who likes badgers", but this wasn't something I'd laugh at.

I think the fact that people, the media, etc. seem to be more accepting of the former than the latter probably played a role in how people voted.

Women are allowed to be bisexual with ease I think, because society finds it sexually appealing. Men find it attractive and arousing, and women recognize that it's attractive to men.

I know in highschool, I didn't have a single female friend who hadn't at least kissed another woman for male attention.
