Not all things are meant to be "understood". This is especially true in the case of a movie that features a Cyndi Lauper cameo. Just sit back, order a pizza, turn on The Goonies, and embrace your inner child!

Understanding a film and understanding it's status are two different things. I'll just throw on The Lion King or Willy Wonka to relive my childhood.

But if that's the case, you kind of already have your answer. People love The Goonies for the same reason that you like The Lion King/Willy Wonka; the Nostalgia factor. Sure, you can claim that any one of these movies has some influential moral or inner message that had an effect on you, but in the end that's all just justification for simply liking what you grew up with.

I could give a **** about all the things that makes that boring piece of **** and its outdated acting brilliant, cause it's the year 2015, and unless I'm in a film class then I don't really care about its historical significance to film in general. All I know is that I have no desire to sit through two hours of watching some fatass talk funny.

Jurassic Park has a T-Rex eat some dude on a toilet. That's worthy of an Oscar all by itself.

Edit: Just FYI. Apparently "fatass" is censored.

If MB was Romeo and Juliet, he'd be Mercutio.

Edit: Really? Fatass is censored?

Maybe if you knew about those things you wouldn't think its a boring film.

Maybe if I knew all the things that make Yngwie Malmsteen's solos so technically amazing, I wouldn't find them boring either. I'm good.

I can't believe you just made that comparison. Not being able to wrap your mind around classical music would have been more fitting.

Except, while I cannot wrap my mind around classical music with my current level of appreciation, I can still find enjoyment in it. However, like Malmsteen, I am currently unable to be anything but bored with Citizen Kane without any deeper understanding of its assuredly bottomless depths.

Depth and Malmsteen in the same sentence. Does not compute.
