Me?, 60s and 70s progressive rock, also some modern progressive rock like Radiohead, Mars Volta, Spocks Beard, etc...I love most genres of music, i just happan to listen to prog the most, mostly because about 80% of all the music on my computer are prog rock bands, and i spend a lot of time on my computer. =(

I don`t have a preference to any era , even though some people on here might say otherwise There`s always been good & bad music ,I hate this assumtion that seems to crop up that bands like Queen & Led Zeppelin are better than anything thats around now.

I experiment all the time. You never know what might be pleasing to your ear, until you listen to it. It took me a long time to realize that. I only started exploring out of sheer boredom with classic rock.

Most recently, I have been listening to a lot of the women crooners. Etta James, Eva Cassidy, Billie Holiday, and especially Dinah Washington. Wow. Her voice is a wonderful instrument. Too many singers today beat you over the head with their voice, on every song. They only know one way to sing. But these aforementioned women all knew their voice, and how to command it.

90's baby. Lots of cool bands were around then. Nirvana, Hole, Bikini Kill etc.

60's-80's some 90's but i dislike 90% of new stuff, older music was the best and most talented.

I think...think that it may be due to back then it was easy for those bands to be big. For example before Led Zeppelin came along many bands wore standard clothes or a set piece that all members wore when they played live. When Zeppelin came along they took society by suprise, all dressed up in their peace necklaces and flares, people didn't know what to think. Some were angry it wasn't formal, others were loving the "crazyness" of it all, and I think this was a sort of propultion behind the bands stardom, that their style was so extreme and it became a craze. Take nothing away from Zeppelin, they still did the business well, but it would have been easy to be a major hit when their were so many stereotypes of how society should be and Zeppelin came along and tore it to pieces.

Nowadays it's hard to hit that sort of niche. Everything has been done before, and so all we are left with is the music. The music itself is good, most of it is better than the 70's stuff as you hint at, Urban. But there is not a lot to spark a band to fame like there was back then, so it's a pretty big free for all these days and the public doesn't seem to think anything of it.

ThePinkNightmare 09-25-2005 11:54 AM

i'll listen to anything from any time if i like it! at the moment im going through a phase of listening to my 50's stuff most, but that doesnt mean i wont listen to anything else.

puddin 09-26-2005 06:56 AM

Late 80's, all through the 90's and today's music is all great. Not such a big fan of music made earlier than that unless it's truely great.

i think the majority of the time im in the same boat. I prefer music with a message, the 60s had the vietnam war to protest about, the 80s had the whole regan/star wars/nuclear weapons threats, and in the 90s everyone was just sick of everything (example would be smells like teen spirit hitting #1 in the charts). im expecting another big surge of music with profound messages to happend soon with whats going on nowdays...SOAD - Boom is a good example of what im talking about.
