I've only just found out what everybody means when they keep going on about 'Emo kids'. This discovery occured when somebody showed me a Funeral for a Friend DVD and I asked why all of the boys had the same haircuts, were noticeably overweight or underweight and seemed to be bisexual or just plain ***. Apparently these are Emo kids. Is this true?

DontRunMeOver 09-29-2005 04:07 AM

I didn't know *** was a swear word!

DontRunMeOver 09-29-2005 04:08 AM

Why is that a swear word? Is straight a swear word? No? Isn't that discriminatory?

tdoc210 09-29-2005 09:32 AM

just chutup idiot

DontRunMeOver 09-29-2005 09:55 AM

Hey, I don't know if you've seen this video, but that was the impression that I got (as they showed a number of male fans kissing other male fans). If I'm causing offence to a major section of society then, well, there's nothing much I can do about it as - like my story explained - I didn't even know what this section was until yesterday.

DontRunMeOver 09-29-2005 09:59 AM

And all these guys kept saying how sexy the lead singer was. Now I'm not the best judge of these things but I'm pretty sure he wasn't a sexy person.

DontRunMeOver 09-29-2005 09:59 AM

The guys in the video, that was, the ones who were apparently emo kids.

DontRunMeOver 09-29-2005 10:00 AM

And the girls were extremely talkative but also extremly cute.

Expletive Deleted 09-29-2005 10:32 AM

Real Emo: Emotionally charged hardcore punk. Bands like Rites of Spring, Jawbreaker, Fugazi (emo by association)

Emo Today: Emotionally charged pop punk. Bands like My Chemical Romance, Hawthorne Heights, Fall Out Boy. This is not real emo, this was emo after being watered down, and stripped of anything that would've actually made it emo in order to sell it to the MTV watching masses.

There's also Post-Emo, which is the transitional period between emo and emo today (most emo today is influenced by these bands). That would be bands like Sunny Day Real Estate, Jets to Brazil, The Promise Ring, etc. It's emo mixed with Post-Hardcore.

Indie: Any band or artist on an independent label. There is no indie genre, it's a word used to describe other genres. For example, Indie Pop, [General] Indie Rock, Indie Rap (usually called Underground Rap), etc.

God im sick of "real this" and "real that" it gets fucking boring. I dont even really trust your opinion consider youve reffered to fall out boy and MCR as pop punk.

I don't trust your opinion because you don't think Green Day are pop-punk and you're in a Nu-Metal band, so I guess we're even.

And besides, what I just said about emo? That wasn't opinion, that was fact.

I asked you to name me some good Nu-Metal bands in the other thread, and all you named were the same ****ty bands that get played all over the radio and MTV. Barring ATDI (who aren't even Nu-Metal), all of them were crap. So unless there's some secret underground of good Nu-Metal bands that I'm missing (I highly doubt that, as Nu-Metal is the Grunge of today), yes, the entire genre does suck.

Rammstein,NIN,SOAD(i dont like them but lots of people do),KoRn,Slipknot,Muderdolls..
I guess 1 out of 6 ain't bad.

I hope you're ready for another pwning, because there's no way you can argue what I said about emo, other than "You called ____ pop-punk, so you MUST be wrong!"

And based on the fact that Nu-Metal, as a genre, is just plain bad, I'm going to warrant a guess that Murderdolls aren't very good.

sleepy jack 09-29-2005 05:21 PM

Wow your an jerk seriously you diss a genre and diss a band and you dont even check them out!

I would just like to point out that you list Fall Out Boy...Not many people call fall out boy emo...

I know I'm not going to like it, so I'd rather not waste my time.

Are you kidding? Fall Out Boy are considered to be an "emo" band. What, exactly, do people call them?

The majoriy of people consider them pop hence why we have a fall out boy thread in the pop forum.

Maybe on this forum, but every other forum I've ever been to has called them "emo," and just about every "emo kid" I've ever met has said the same. But I guess if they're pop, that means most of those Nu-Metal bands are pop, too?

Your an idiot.

I dont wanna get banned again.

So im just gonna say seriously check into a genre before you diss it.

riseagainstrocks 09-29-2005 05:36 PM

Couple of things.

1. DontRunMeOver stop posting 6 times in a row. edit your post.

2. Misfits, Nu-metal does suck. deal with it.

3. Expletive Deleted, Fall Out Boy is pop rock. I was excited when you talked about Mineral (seeing as how they are emo) that you knew you're ****, but apparantly you just read Fourfa or else are just mistaken. and now I shall do Frost's job seeing as how he is never on anymore. Real emo is (drumroll please) : The Kodan Armada, Heroin, Antioch Arrow, Still Life, Clikat Ikatowi (i still can't spell that off the top of my head), and bands of a similar nature. Disagree? Too bad. It's like saying Mudvayne has talent, it just isn't true

Way to not actually respond to anything I just said. All you've done since you came into this thread was call me an idiot for not liking Nu-Metal. Why don't you actually add to this discussion by giving a definition of emo or indie? Or telling me where, outside of this forum, because I'd like to point out that it's not the definitive of what is and is not emo, you've seen Fall Out Boy called anything other than a popular "emo" band.

I'm not saying they're emo, I'm saying they're considered emo by people who don't know what it is.

riseagainstrocks 09-29-2005 05:47 PM

Lostprophets Nu-Metal???

thats a sketchy assessment, but I can say I don't like any of the bands on that list (minus Lostprophets) and I have heard most of them.

and Misfits and Expletive drop it. now.

i didnt make the list, just wanted something out there to stomp out the petty arguments since this thread isnt supposed to be about nu-metal., i wouldnt consider soulfly nu-metal either, but eh..

riseagainstrocks 09-29-2005 05:51 PM

depends on the song I suppose, but I digress.
