Your logic astounds me.

It makes sense that a record store would have an indie section, because indie is any band on an independent label, but that DOESN'T make it a genre.

But go ahead, tell me, what makes a band indie?

Indeed.

And , unfortunately, Franz Ferdinand. Everywhere I go, I hear them playing in the background

Britain must be different to you guys in the States.. Over here , theres so much more Kasabian than Kanye, fer example.

I hate Franz Ferdinand with a passion.
I don't even know why, except the fact they're crap.
And also the lead singer looks like he should be a Geography teacher and it makes me cringe to look at him.

LedZepStu whether intentionaly or not pointed out that musical trends differ geographicaly, whats more popular somewhere in the world could be compleatly resented elsewhere, if your looking at it on a global scale then id probably say Hip Hop but Rock is starting to make its way back into the *shudders* Mainstream even if it is a generic form of the original.

And Indie is actualy a recognised genre in the music industry, whether you want to consider it one or not, it is a recognised genre.

A recognized genre in the music industry? What the **** are you talking about? The only people who recognize indie as a genre are idiots and NME-reading Brits.

It's a type of record label, no more no less.

So would everybody please stop treating it like one?

And while I prefer Rock, Hip Hop is obviously more popular.
though not a genre specifically it is regarded as a style and lifestyle- in britian anyway. these "idiots" are the guys that actually buy the records. do you really care that much anyway? genre's are a waste of time.

I guess here in America we know what the fuck we're talking about.

And most bands I see considered "indie" in the UK are on major labels, anyway.
