Ouch, got burned by a bad album/artist?

I know that I'm not the only one that this has happened to, you hear a single, you buy a cd and it sucks-ouch. A waste of money, I know, I know-who still buys cds-well, I do. And I'm sure that I'm not alone. I've recently got a napster subscription and have been using that as my screening process which is cool because I can check out different genres and artists and really explore music without shelling out tons of loot. Long story short-I'm now jaded but getting over it.

Burned by:

Mary J Blidge- No Drama
Phish-I don't even remember which cd, because I prompty gave it away
Dalvin Degrates- Title not worth remembering
Alicia Keys- Songs in the key of life (I lot of people will disagree with me on this)
R.Kelly- The double cd R
Zwan- title unimportant
Camp Lo- I think they only had one cd anyway

obviously therapy is working because I have successfully blocked out a lot of past unpleasantness-- but which artists/cds have burned you with bad albums

Ha! c'mon dood, you gotta have more than that! Unless you just have too much pride...

I once bought a Antipop Consortium CD Years ago and it wasnt what I expected....saw them live before the cd purchase and they killed it-oh well
hmmm, lets see, Im sure there are more, but I can't remember

I bought that a Coldplay album based on "Don't Panic." Horrible decision.

half_baked87 12-07-2005 02:32 PM

The nice thing about today is you can hear song samples of most CDs on the internet, or listen to them on headphones at a store before buying.

Back in the day of vinyl records and no internet, lots of people were just SOL. If you didn't know anybody who owned or had heard a particular record, buying it was a "hit or miss" proposition. Many stores back then didn't offer the capability of previewing a recording with headphones. Nowadays it's the norm.

The cd that has disappointed me most recently was Royksopps Understanding-Melody AM was awesome so of course I get excited about their new cd. Well...I had no idea that the cd was going to be more 'Pop-y' I mean there are a couple of good songs but I wasn't expecting it to be the way it was--the place I bought it from buys cds back but I was like, I'll just keep it--it will be my albatross --and there are like 4 alright/good songs.

Yeah, although lots of record stores do have listening stations.
The internet and artist websites do give the nice option of checking outa track, and I heard that Napster lets you listen to entire tracks before buying them. I think its some type of subscription concept.

A few years ago:

Andrew WK - I Get Wet

JohnnyK 12-10-2005 11:17 AM

Judas Priest - Jugulator

I didn't feel too bad about it though, I got it at a used cd store for like $1.50. It had cool cover art, but the lyrics look like they were written by some cheap horror movie director.

Scarlett O'Hara 12-12-2005 12:40 AM

Deftones - self titled.

I was expecting songs like Change (In The House Of Flies) but was highly disappointed.

Have to agree. Both the Owens albums were pretty crap to the point they didn't even sound like Priest anymore.
The only songs that were passable in my opinion were Burn In Hell and Cathedral Spires.
The latest album is back to traditional Priest with the return of Halford

If that counts.

Sabgoat 01-03-2006 01:50 PM

IamAlejo 01-03-2006 02:00 PM

If I got paid the money they did...I could crap better songs than that CD. I have nothing against that band. I love the band. But that CD sucked. Period.

FFAF was another one that was downloaded and sucked. I've gotten to the point where I have to download it before I buy them so I don't become seriously disappointed.

And agreed with Alexisonfire on the one above too. Hot Damn! was enjoyable though.

Sabgoat 01-03-2006 02:31 PM

HAHAHHAHAH
No you can't, ive read your writing.
As i said before nearly all your posts are spam or your repeating someone wording it diffirent and "adding more" its getting stupid and annoying.
61 one posts per day? chill out you didn't even register a week ago.

The Green Album by Weezer, completely worthless.

PerFeCTioNThrUSileNCe 01-04-2006 01:35 AM

meh...lead us to reason - the black maria. i bought it thinking it would be a LOT better than it was.

sleepy jack 01-04-2006 04:02 PM

^I bought that :( sucked.
I bought the armor for sleep album, i suppose its okay.
But damn, that singer needs to learn something called passion.
His voice is so boring and monotoned i got bored with the album after a day.
