It's so you can share what you've been listening to with a forum full of strangers basically. Or give your link to someone so you can see how compatible you are. I kind of forget about it for the most part, visit it every week. Their recommendations are fine, but there are countless other sites that have that. (You know the ones where you put in an artist and it branches off similar artists.) Well, you can listen to music on Last FM as well but I never bother with it. I have iTunes for that.

Last.fm is just for charts and shoutboxes as far as I'm concerned. Their recommendations are pathetic.

Disagreed, I've got some great recommendations from Last.fm.

I'm indifferent to their recommendations, some okay ones. Some that make me facepalm.

Something like 8/10 recommendations I get from LastFM turn out to be worthwhile, so I've never had a problem with them. Whenever I feel like getting into some new music, it's the same routine - check out similar artists to someone I've been listening to a lot lately, look for some appropriate videos on youtube and, if I like what I hear, pretty soon I'll have me a new album.

You should use RYM to find new music (I really sound obsessed with this website.) but I find it a much better to find new stuff that's worthwhile than Last FM. I'll never quite forgive Last FM for recommending my The Kooks.

Yeah, but you can spot garbage like that a mile off anyway, even if it's on LastFM

I do use RYM more often for that kinda thing though. Amazon's pretty good for recs too.

RYM, Last FM and forum members.

I've never bothered with Amazon, wasn't sure it even did recommendations.

My Last FM recommendations at the moment aren't bad

Spoon
Fionn Regan
Blind Pilot
Wolf Parade
Horse Feathers
Local Natives

All them are meant to be good, I think anyway.
