sometimes the artist but it's probably people who have some sort of access to the recording and puts it out.

well i wouldnt be surprised if some artists intentionally leak it.

A lot of rapers do that.
Lil' Wayne did that for Da Carter 3.

There have always been promo copies & pre-release copies going around so record company people & media people can hear them before release. It's just these days we have the internet so people are able to copy them & distribute them online.

the Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster - 45
R. Stevie Moore - 43
Durrty Goodz - 37
Marxman - 35

And alot of (unfairly) obscure 70's prog from Comus (Jan Dukes de Grey, Bodkin) and Anteater (Mirthrandir, Black Widow). I guess the prodigious length of the tracks keeps that stuff out of my top 6.
