I'd pick a different festival, mate

elphenor 02-25-2022 05:32 PM

every group I recognize on there is pretty much dog**** 4real

Frownland 02-25-2022 06:41 PM

You don't like/know Machine Gun Kelly?

rostasi 02-25-2022 07:42 PM

There’s three I’d really like to see on Saturday night: Khruangbin, 100 Gecs and the excellent Sampa the Great.

elphenor 02-27-2022 01:40 PM

Khraungbin? Really?

they're so bland

they sell records like hot cakes baffling literally everyone who works at my shop

yuppies in Austin just buy it because someone told them to, I'm not sure they ever even spin them

elphenor 02-27-2022 01:48 PM

I feel like 100 Gecs/hyperpop in general is a matter of running as hard as you can to try and find some free real estate in music rather than something that's genuinely interesting

but at least it's novel

That's my impression too. People put them in their instagram stories all the time but there wasn't a single track that stayed with me or made me want to listen to it again.

Yeah, Khruangbin are about as bland as every other band out there that mixes '68-'75 era Thai funk,
Jamaican reggae, and Iranian pop with props to the funkiness of Stax and soulfulness of Philly Int'l.

One of the things I learned from a lifetime of record store working, managing and owning is that
it's easy to become one big record store pie where very few there want to cut the first slice.

As for seeing 100 Gecs live? Sure, why the hell not?
