I would definitely not say they are overrated, although they are severely discredited with certain ideas, by most people.
They werent too original no, but neither were The Rolling Stones, since they often did the same things people accuse Led Zeppelin of doing, like reusing the sound of old blues musicians and giving it a extra punch, The Stones even did it more consistantly....Its not like blues rock was all that Zeppelin did, they have MANY good songs that dont really fall into the blues rock category.

Im not bashing The Stones, dont get me wrong, i think they're great.

Yeah, I agree with all that, that's what I'm saying. It wasn't technical originality that made Led Zeppelin great, it was their style of playing. And yeah, they had plenty of non-blues songs, but those weren't the kind of thing people hadn't heard before. Not to say that they weren't great songs.

Dunno, i think Ten Years After and Song Remains The Same were very original songs, Kashmir too.

I suppose so for the first two; Kashmir, although a great song, sort of sounds like the riff was just taken out of some classical song (none in particular) and repeated over and over again (but there I go contradicting myself from earlier, saying that classical hasn't influenced rock).

Classical has certainly influenced progressive rock, some fractions of it anyway, primarly Symphonic Prog.

Yeah, that's what I said in my earlier post. But outside of that, what's it influenced (not trying to imply it hasn't influenced any of it, I'm curious)? I suppose there's a bunch of metal that has some classical influences, is there anything else?

You own how many albums and think they suck? Are you kidding? It's Febuary, April 1st is ways away sir.

Also I don't want to come off as a Zep fan boi here, but this is the same argument used every time.

Did Led Zep rip off their country riffs? Or their Folk riffs? or how about that salsa jam in the middle of Fool in the rain?

I don't ask much, I just ask that you educate yourself enough to speak intelligently. Maybe im asking to much, so if I am, please refrain from "recycling" the same garbage a million other posters here stated. The newbs need the help, you regulars should know better.

I didn't say that they ripped off the specific riffs of the folk or country or salsa stuff, but it's not like the style had never been used before, but they ripped off the style. And that's fine, because everyone rips off someone else in some way, and Led Zeppelin kicked ass while doing it. However, they shouldn't be credited as original for writing folk songs or mixing latin rhythms into their music.
