I don't even know what "antics" U2 apparently get up to. Obviously I know Bono has done some charity work, but that doesn't make me despise him. Either way, their music has always completely bored me.

Because Bono is a pompous ass.

Goofle 07-29-2012 04:06 PM

That doesn't really make any difference to me.

I like their early work. They were fans of Joy Division and their influence shows in U2's music during the 80s - so bonus points for that imo. I admire the Edge and Larry Mullen Jr. as musicians. I thought as far as artist/bands of the 80s their music was more real, more authentic sounding than that of pre-fab sounds of Michael Jackson and Madonna, which was only music for the masses anyhow.

Wow. I was slowly doing a write up while reading your colossal rant but I had to stop because it was just such a waste of time reading it. You didn't list any actual dates to prove your points (just generic years) and it seems like most of what you wrote was just....made up? I'm not going to correct it all and put up a debate, anyone who wants to know the truth can just look it up for themselves. I would just like to know why you would do something like that. What are you getting out this?

I mean I can understand you disliking them for their music, work and….I don't know what else you're complaining about, his haircut (?) because fine that's subjective. What I don't get is why you HATE them for it. If most people don't like a celebrity or artist, they just put their work off and put on something else. Seems like you're dealing with some issues of your own mate.

Anyway, I don't care much for Kim Kardashian; as an influential figure, she is irresponsibly ignorant and exploitative. That said, she deserves admiration for the work she's done for AIDS and Cancer research. If her success eventually translates to a family not having to lose a loved one, or a person being able to maintain a treatment they could no longer afford, then more power to her.

I love U2 and, although I can get annoyed with Bono too, I have nothing but admiration for the man as a musician, performer and philanthropist. Nevermind the details, there are people in the world who would have only died young if it wasn't for him. He's inspired an enormous generation of artists. And its interesting that there are complaints in his asking for money from people when his ONE organization specifically does not ask for money; they are only looking for voices and votes.

But nevermind, I won't change any minds. Wish there was a little less mindless hate and jealousy in the world but what can you do?

Although I feel rock music is a joke (and it is), I don't think Bono is that bad. Most rock people in my view are valueless but that is not the case with Bono. Bono is a good man. I think more people need to know him.

And here I thought you were supposedly tolerant of what other people like to listen to.

For me it's just some intangible thing, I guess. Most Arena Rock doesn't interest me very much and U2 epitomizes that sound for me. Every once in awhile, they turn out something kind of interesting, like 'Lemon', but most of what they do just doesn't engage me. I'm not sure I can even find fault with them because it's all so arbitrary and subjective. I feel the same way about Pearl Jam, have no use for them, but then I do like Tool, who sound somewhat similar to Pearl Jam. Can't explain it. I'm also a huge Brian Eno fan and he has his fingers all over the U2 records, but even that doesn't draw me in.

Fortunately, they already have plenty of fans and don't need me tootling along behind them. ^_^

Bono is a self-righteous martyr

i'm a misanthrope so that gets to me - just admit you're some pompous windbag deluded into thinking that you're doing something good for society, when all you're doing is drawing attention to yourself and your band's music so that it sells

that will sit down better with me

i mean, look at Keef, he's "real"

other than that, i hugely enjoy U2, but don't expect me to put on "The Joshua Tree" cos i'd rather set fire to my pubes than listen to that crock o' shit

I gotta say this group never clicked with me, it's awesome
what Bono tries to do for social change, sorry just not in
my top 100.
