I've answered the question already. The sexy R'n'B, which makes women frisky in clubs.

All genres are created equal. :)

LukeM_UK 03-29-2006 08:15 AM

Best type of music ever invented?

Hmm, pretty hard to say....

I mean, everyone must have heard at least one good song from most genres.

But looking at how many songs I like, the majority of them fall into three genres:

Rock, Pop, & Dance.

Well...I still think this thread is just a excuse for favortism, we already know everyone is going to say rock is the best...Its all a matter of opinion...If someones favorite genre is say Techno then why try to tell them they are wrong?

Crashing Sun 03-29-2006 09:32 AM

I think the question is which is more popular. Right now it's pop because we live in time when rock is either dead or dying ar trying to transform into something new without the usual pretension or suckiness that goes along with such attempts by people who have no business trying to play it in the first place. Rap and R&B also very big. Thanks mtv, american idol, and all marketing-designed music. I think the best genre is blues though.

Rock is-in a sense-making a comeback. However, its not in the form most of us would like it to. Its coming back into popularity with Fallout Boy and Hawthorne Heights, and backs like that. Really crappy rock that involves little talent and no good live shows.

But blues singers of 1920s onward must have thought the same thing when british and garage bands started popping up later on. Its like the evolution of music. Its inevitable.

And I still stick with Symphonic Metal/Rock as the best music EVER. Though I'm getting into more and more Prog.

TrampInaTux 03-29-2006 11:28 PM

I'm just going to answer the question and not go into a 'which is more popular' debate.
For me I have three favourite genres. Rap, Indie and Punk (which I know hardly anything about)

INDIE IS NOT A GENRE!

It kind of is. Its meaning is a lot fuzzier than most though, because it means both a certain style of music and something along the lines of 'independent record-label'. Its IS a genre, but its a very vague genre.

bungalow 03-30-2006 07:17 AM

Very vauge, considering it can cover everything from Art Brut to Jedi Mind Tricks

DontRunMeOver 03-30-2006 07:22 AM

Yes. Whoever the purveyors of genre-naming are, they really ballsed it up when they named Indie. Somebody should have come up with a different name early on and avoided all the ambiguity.

WE NAMED THE DOG INDIE

ILIVEMUSIC 03-30-2006 11:06 AM

Indie/electro!!!

A_Perfect_Sonnet 03-30-2006 11:19 AM

TrampInaTux 03-31-2006 11:43 AM

I mean Indie as in the style of music, not the Independent label kind of Indie. If only they had 2 different names so everyone wouldn't get all confused.

bungalow 03-31-2006 02:12 PM

What sound does indie have?

TrampInaTux 03-31-2006 02:15 PM

You know, I can't explain that. It's just when I hear something I can determine that it has an Indie sound/feel/vibe to it.

Pretty much, any indie band could easly fall into the alternative rock category.

ryan123 04-03-2006 01:07 PM

punk music is the most exciting. but it covers a wide range

manuel1984 04-03-2006 01:16 PM

Indie has my vote

littleknowitall 04-03-2006 02:48 PM

im gonna say blues, it gave way to so many other genres and even though it's not my favourite i'd say it was the greatest genre invented. i just don't see how people can vote for indie:S it's just such an insignificant genre in comparison with so many others.

Poorly said but well thought. This was pretty much my answer.

cardboard adolescent 04-03-2006 03:34 PM

There's so many great genres (read: subgenres) out there that it's pretty moronic to pick just one as "the greatest" but here's a couple of my favorites for the last two or so years:

Post-Punk
Avant-Jazz
Noise Rock
Math Rock
Alternative Rock (read: 80-90's indie rock ala Husker Du, not post-grunge)
Punk RAWK!
Kraut Rock
Blues Rock
and... prog... which I'm going to use as a broad term to describe everything from Frank Zappa to Captain Beefheart to Mr. Bungle to King Crimson.

cardboard adolescent 04-03-2006 03:37 PM

I think when most people say indie they're usually talking about indie rock and indie pop, but I don't really care enough to get into that argument.

Last nights 30+ posts of crap ruined this thread for the members who posted responsibly.
