There is no best genre.


Too many people will go with rock because thats pretty much all they actualy listen to.

Other people do listen to other stuff though.

There may not be a best genre but there is a genre that everyone thinks should be the best which is mostly what the thread is about.

ahem as in the sense of being totally serious music genres are not *invented* it is fromed and molded, and derived from other types of music that had been derived from the music before that. the ony time music was *invented* was when the cave men beat a stone aginst another

then well call it the best product of musical fusion to appear on the scene in the past couple of 100 years, and for me it has to be glam rock or punk. but they've set the clocks forward and i've lost an hour of sleep, so my heads not screwed on yet and i can't really think up some reasoning as to why.

Inventions are made by combining existing material in a novel way to create a new product, which does something new, or does something in a new way at least. As for musical styles, even though new styles are created by taking elements of other musical styles, each new style that emerges could still be said to have been 'invented'. Why? Its the way in which you put the component parts (the individual sounds) together that constitutes the 'inventing' and doesn't require the existence of any new parts.
