Best music player?

SO, I've finally shifted from using crappy iTunes to my previous, good old Winamp. I've used it before and changed to iTunes because I got an iPod and nneded iTunes to sync. Anyways, I'm pleased with my new program but the emormous amount of hype surrounding such software as MediaMonkey is really intriguing, I'm looking for a convenient, simple player, that doesn't give a damn about ID3 tags and let's me organize my playlists my way. Should I stick with Winamp or move onto something else?

Honestly it's really all subjective. I've heard from a lot of different people that after you accumulate a large music collection iTunes starts to lag really badly, however the iPod is the most popular mp3 player on the market and it works best with iTunes so it does have that advantage. I've been using winamp for the past three years now and it's so far been my favourite. You can close certain parts of it and it's not as flashy as some of the other media players. I tried Media Monkey for a while and it seemed pretty neat, but I couldn't install the Last.fm scrobbler with it even after looking up ways to get around it. Windows Media Player is fairly simple to use, but does tend to lag a bit after you get a large music collection. All in all it really comes down to personal preference, I think winamp is the best, however I've heard a large number of people disagree with me.

Well I'm not reverting back to iTunes again that's for sure, and WMP sounds like it's got suckage written all over it. My dillema is between Winamp, MediaMonkey or other music players I haven't heard of that fit into the criteria above and are on par with WA and MM. Thanks for your input though :)

Best music player = turntable

2nd best = CD Player

There is no third.

I just decided try mediamonkey. It's pretty slick. If you look in the thread about showing your media setup there's a really easy way to scrobble too.

I hate Winamp, personally. I hate iTunes too. So I guess I just use a crappy program. I'm working on getting Media Monkey up. Someone in the other thread also mentioned that there is a way to get Media Monkey to work with an iPod, so that would pretty mch end the need for iTunes all around imo.

^^^

have you tried rockbox on your ipod? if you install that as the operating system all you have to do is drag and drop music from your cpu. you can even choose different skins and really tweak all the audio settings.

MediaMonkey is by far the best program I've ever used, and I've used iTunes, Winamp, WMP, and the Zune software (that-which-must-not-be-named). It's really easy to scrobble with Last.FM, supports iPod syncing, just so much easier to tag your music/keep everything organized. IMO. I find I have a lot more time to actually listen to music now rather than having to keep fix tags. You can download a whole bunch of skins to customize it how you like, no lag whatsoever, like I said hands down the best. Definitely give it a shot.

Anyone heard of Songbird? They're still working on it, but's it's going to be a really sick program when it comes out. It's built off the Mozilla Firefox Platform. It's a great music player, library, it can sync with your iPod, not to mention a full browser (which is really just firefox). You can download a plugin which used to be standard called Skreemr, where you can search for any music or song you want and then download it right into your library. Just like iTunes Store, but free. It has some really cool plugins such as for music recommendation, not to mention Last.FM support.
I believe the site is getsongbird.com (i cant post links yet :)
