The Official The Stone Roses Thread

I couldn't find a thread just about them. I found something about them releasing a cd but it was old and not well done so I've decided to make my own. Anyways, I love this band they're awesome. Great solid instrumental with catchy vocals. That's one thing I like about British music, it makes you listen to the song as a whole rather than individual parts. S/t is my favorite album.

Eire 85 06-28-2006 03:16 AM

The Stone Roses were brilliant. Hard to believe they only made 2 albums. I can see them getting back together some day if Ian would just stop being a tool.
The intro to I Wanna Be Adored probably one of the best pieces of modern music.

IndiElectronica 06-28-2006 03:24 AM

a very good band that sadly had too few albums to be considered great in my book. Their remix cd is worth getting as well FYI

Piss Me Off 06-28-2006 06:40 AM

Anything i say will have been said many times before, they're brilliant.

stakeraiser 06-28-2006 04:14 PM

very, very good stuff

Not too soon then

Trauma 06-28-2006 11:38 PM

Love it.

Piss Me Off 06-29-2006 02:26 AM

Naaa, i wouldn't want them to reform, i wouldn't want them to tarnish their lehendary past. Reformations normally end up being a bit messy, with the exception of the Pixies.

Urban Hat€monger ? 06-29-2006 09:56 AM

I don`t want them to reform simply because Mani is more than happy as a member of Primal Scream :D

DontRunMeOver 06-29-2006 09:58 AM

That's another reason why I'd want them to reform. Split up Primal Scream!

If they reformed without Ian Brown I'd be entirely happy, and possibly without Mani too. The guitars and drums sold it for me. Not sure what Brown brought really, maybe he booked the reheasal rooms?

Urban Hat€monger ? 06-29-2006 10:07 AM

Well they must have bought something to the Stone Roses , otherwise they would have ended up being as sh*t as The Seahorses.

m_thomp 07-19-2006 10:45 AM

They were a spent force as soon as Reni left the set-up. He was the man who provided the funk and gelled everything to gether to stop them becoming an another boring indie band.

TheElectricSlug 07-23-2010 05:10 PM

Any other Stone Roses Fans Here?

Gotta love "I am the Resurrection".

TheCunningStunt 07-23-2010 05:12 PM

We should change the name to The Stone Roses and move it to the Indie/Alt section.

The Stone Roses deserve a thread of their own.

Their S/T

TheElectricSlug 07-23-2010 05:13 PM

Its a shame no one really knows about them in the USA.

Their best song IMO, I may actually prefer The Happy Mondays, but they are great Squire is an epic guitarist.

Maybe that's because they haven't released any worthwhile music in 20 years? Believe me, when they did, they were popular as hell in the US.

So in America people forget about bands just because they've stopped making music?

Screen13 07-23-2010 06:20 PM

With the first Album and "Fools Gold," and even going back to "Sally Cinnamon," they had plenty of classic hooks. I stand by all of that. (Going by the first proper album release).

Their second album is only a pale shadow, but then again, it was created after a forced moment of silence (lawsuits and all that...), so it's understood where the fire died out. With "10 Story love Song" still playing in my mind years after the tape expired, to me there was at least a bit if all too short magic in there.

As for The Seahorses...sorry. Tons of potential sadly led up to a half-powered album with maybe a good moment or two in my opinion if I'm on a good day.

Enough of the crapping on. It's time to remember why they are remembered - a crowning album of 1989, the moment when things had to change quick. No better album did that than the S/T classic.

You have to be very special to Americans to keep their attention for over two decades with only one good album. Personally, I have always loved Stone Roses s/t and I always will.

Since we're talking about the US, it's interesting that the Stone Roses' subpar, eventual follow up album, Second Coming, is considered 'more popular in America' I guess because Squire wanks out some good ol' American-style blues guitar solos throughout. I obviously think it's far worse but I have run into several people who say they like it better than the first one. I'm always shocked when I hear that

Jeff Buckley then? (almost)

And no one jump on my back about Sketches being good, that album p*sses me off. It makes me think 'Oh what might've been...'

And yeah, Second Coming is f*cking terrible. How anyone can prefer it is unfathomable.

That's the appropriate Mancunian reaction to the album - and I agree

TheElectricSlug 07-24-2010 08:33 AM

Pitchfork (which usually sucks) gave the The Stone Roses album a perfect 10/10.

Stone Roses to 'reunite' as Ian Brown and John Squire 'bury hatchet' | News | NME.COM

No. Not buying it.

Zer0 04-07-2011 04:36 AM

Hmmm I doubt the rumours are true, something like that pops up nearly every year and gets denied by the band members. Besides I doubt Man. City are going to win the Premier League this year.

It's sourced from a tabloid report aswell. As I say, I'm not buying it.

i agree to most of this except I haven't heard the Shirehorses and don't intend to

Mani rubbishes Stone Roses reunion rumours | Music | The Guardian

Yeah, no surprise there!

EDIT: The most interesting part of that article was clearly the mention of a Right Said Fred reunion...:usehead:

doodle 05-25-2011 11:44 AM

the stone roses incredible, definitely one of my favorite bands... :)

is it true Mani did the drums for the outro to 'I Am The Ressurection' in one take?

Stone Roses

Alright guys, I'm producing a magazine about the Stone Roses and upcoming shows in Manchester. What d'ya think of them getting back together and thoughts about support acts

Cheers

daviddouglas 05-01-2012 03:29 AM

I'm going watching them in late June.

I know that the music isn't going to be too good, but the crowd and the atmosphere will be amazing!

Indeed I am. Can't wait.

Matchbox41 06-08-2013 10:12 AM

No, I do not want them to reform. I wouldn't want them to tarnish their legendary past. Reformations normally end up being a bit messy, with the exception of the Pixies. They were great in their prime though and I still listen to them from time to time. It's nice to see that other people feel the same way.
