NEW YORK (AP) Rivers Cuomo says that, for now, Weezer is "done." Cuomo, the band's bespectacled songwriter and frontman, told MTV that while he remains in touch with his bandmates, "we've never mentioned getting together."
"Really, for the moment, we are done," he said. "And I'm not certain we'll ever make a record again, unless it becomes really obvious to me that we need to do one."

Weezer has released five albums since forming in 1993. The group took a considerable break between 1996's Pinkerton and 2001's self-titled disc (typically called The Green Album ). The band's last release was Make Believe, in 2005.

The liner notes of that album led to conjecture that it was Weezer's last. They included a quote from a parting soliloquy in Shakespeare's Tempest, the playwright's last play.

Cuomo, 36, said he has been writing songs, but said, "I don't know what'll happen with these songs if anything. ... I certainly don't see them becoming Weezer songs, and I don't really see the point of a solo career. So we'll just have to see."

Jim Merlis, a spokesman for Geffen said that the label had no official response, but did add Cuomo has made similar statements in the past.

Cuomo recently graduated from Harvard and married his longtime girlfriend, Kyoko Ito.

Wow,

Well what's done is done. Bye bye Weezer

jazzfromhell 07-14-2006 02:09 PM

Haven't put anything out that I really liked in ten years. I'm never one to give up hope on a band completely, but they've been in a constant downhill slide, and I wouldn't be expecting anything great from them if they stayed together.

beat yr own KID 07-14-2006 02:13 PM

Their last few cds were garbage so this is probably for the best.

sleepy jack 07-14-2006 02:21 PM

All their CDs were garbage so...

MoonlitSunshine 07-14-2006 02:22 PM

Yeah, better they break up when they haven't made any SERIOUS mistakes the do an RHCP of it

boo boo 07-14-2006 02:57 PM

The blue album was fecking ass kicking sweetness, Pinkerton is also great... The green album was good, their last two albums were disapointments.

Raine 07-14-2006 03:14 PM

Make Believe is probably their worst album.

But I guess they were great while they lasted.

Although I'm a little disappointed to see them leave the music scene. Their shows weren't too amazing, but theyw ere great nonetheless. Oh well.

ArtistInTheAmbulance 07-14-2006 03:32 PM

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

:)

*ahem*

Urban Hat€monger ? 07-14-2006 03:47 PM

*sob*

They were the first band I ever got savaged by their fans for hating online.

I`ll miss the punchable shits

Laces Out Dan! 07-14-2006 04:12 PM

I like Weezer...well not the last two albums..them breaking up was probably for the best

Twistershift 07-14-2006 11:07 PM

Some of you people never miss an opportunity to start sh*t, do you?
Ah, well, guess I'll get used to it.
Anyway, yeah, first three albums, not so much the others. Been coming for awhile, though, they already had a long hiatus once. Was a matter of time.

Blind Martyr 07-15-2006 01:51 AM

yeah, this is really sad, but atleast they are getting out of the game while they are still good.

*stares at Metallica*

MoonlitSunshine 07-15-2006 03:42 AM

Hahaha. Metallica would have to go back in time to do that I'm afraid.

Decoy 07-15-2006 04:36 AM

good riddance

coffeeshop 07-15-2006 05:28 AM

I really like the Blue Album and Pinkerton. One of the first bands really to use a geeky imagine to their advantage.

boo boo 07-15-2006 06:16 AM

Well if you don't include Devo.

Maybe i'm confusing geeks with nerds.

explosions-in-my-pants 07-15-2006 10:31 AM

I won't miss this band being gone. They to me had one good album, which was there first album.

Devo are legends.

"We are not men. we are DEVO"

DearJenny 07-15-2006 08:45 PM

Oh no......and dare I say I enjoyed "Make Believe" quite a lot?

ArtistInTheAmbulance 07-19-2006 11:43 AM

It was on MTV, and even if they havn't (for good), we can expect weezer to be gone for at least 3 years.

The Ten Thousandth Fist 07-19-2006 06:21 PM

Shame... Weezer was pretty damn good in their time.

They're doing a show October 13th with the Foo Fighters.

I'm not too big a fan of their new stuff so I'm hoping they'll play some stuff off some of their first albums

Spike*Spiegel 08-26-2006 09:35 PM

they never really did anything for me, so, no loss
<edit> ewww
they should stay dead

I imagine that maybe within the next 15 years they'll finally call the quits for good seeings how Rivers is in his early thirties and married and has a college degree.
I imagine he'll find something else to do with his time. As well as the other members of Weezer.

Weezer rocks!!

Spike*Spiegel 08-26-2006 09:41 PM

weezer rocks nothing. cept maybe each other. late at night.

Laces Out Dan! 08-26-2006 10:06 PM

Good one?

Spike*Spiegel 08-26-2006 10:12 PM

no that was ****ty and unimaginative

jaded 08-28-2006 04:23 AM

yay weezers gone, or was that the wrong thing to say

MoonlitSunshine 08-28-2006 10:42 AM

Well, It seems that they aren't, or maybe they are...

sleepy jack 08-28-2006 02:57 PM

Who knows, this is like the seventh time they've broken up. Rivers is such an attention whore it's ridiculous.

beffi90_09 08-29-2006 08:12 AM

:( oh well... my cd got broken anyways.

Spike*Spiegel 08-29-2006 02:17 PM

i never bought their cd. i actually found it, discarded on the side of the road by the park. after i listened to it, it became a frisbee

TrampInaTux 08-30-2006 05:13 AM

I liked them, nothing too offensive and they didn't seem to be forced down your throats as much as other bands.
