I don't, I like to support the bands that I listen to.

Well if I was in a band i`d rather have 50,000 people listening to my music for free and turning up to gigs and buying merchandise, rather than have 5,000 buy it , of which most of the money would go to the record company anyway.

I only buy cds, and sometimes I download a few songs to check it out.

I don't see it as ''robbing'' so I don't totally agree with my choice in vote. I just like to have tthe cd, with the booklet, and stuff. It makes you feel more of a fan, and it sure as hell fills up your closet!

No I don't use limeware. Yes I download music. And don't give that crap that I'm a horrible person for stealing music. Music is meant to be shared. I have full intentions of buying stuff when I get the money right now it's just close to non-existent, The little money I do have I spend on cds.

Urban Hat€monger ? 09-18-2006 03:53 PM

I don`t really see how it can be considered stealing anyway.

I`ve bought about 30 albums this year so far & downloaded around 200. Of the 200 i`ve downloaded it`s because I want to hear what they`re like. There`s no way I would have bought them anyway. If I was never going to give those bands money in the first place then they`re not losing out by me hearing their stuff for free.

Also i`ve been listening to a lot of stuff by Hawkwind & The Fall. Both those bands are in the middle of having their albums re-released with remastering & bonus tracks of which i`m buying as they are released.

Why would I go out and buy their stuff now that hasn`t been re-mastered yet when I know in a year or so i`ll have to buy the same album again to get what I wanted in the first place? Why wait all that time to hear an album I really want when I can get the standard albums for nothing now and pay for the special editions later?

It depends on what it is. You can't tell me that you haven't bought a cd, only knowing one song on it, only to discover when you get it home, that the one song you like is the ONLY song on it you like. So, I might preview a cd by downloading some of it. If I really enjoy it, or I'm a big fan of the band and have liked all their previous stuff..then yea, I'll buy it no questions asked. But as far as just single songs..it's a rip-off buying cd singles. Also, I've just run into too many instances where the sites that charge for the songs just don't have what I'm looking for, or the versions I'm looking for either. I agree with the whole "i'd rather have 50,000 people listening for free than 5,000 paying" statement. Bands don't start playing music to make money, and if they do..they don't deserve our support. Bands play music, for the love of the music..to share it with people. Most bands would be happy to have thier stuff available to their fans for next to nothing. Other than your major label bands who've gone "Corporate" and grown obsessed with themselves and making money..the only ones who really care that you "buy" the music are the labels themselves.

so very true. you might not make any money, but its free exposure to anyone in the world, you can't beat that.
