Bands turning into U2
So apparently The Killers are now turning the way of U2... along with Razorlight... stadium rock really is the big thing now ain't it?
The Killers are even bragging about U2's influence on them. What is the world coming to?! |
In most cases these bands don't really have a choice, they sell so many records its natural that they're going to have to play larger venues and write songs that are going to fill those larger venues.
Still, no excuse for Razorlight's 'America'. Horrible song. |
Bands of the Rolling Stones calibre, really don't have much choice.
It would be hard to expect the likes of the Stones or any other massive band to play any other kind of venue. Having said that, they usually play a small gig in front of a limited number of people during a tour. I know which venue I'd prefer to see them at. All to often, the bigger a band gets, the more they forget about the people who helped get them there. As for the Killers bragging about U2's influence, well that confirms my feelings toward this band. Not a fan. |
It would still be good if the didn't change the formula completely... I didn't particularly like The Killers before, I thought they were bland... but the new stuff I've heard sounds much better.
As for Razorlight, they could have still afforded to keep some of the old formula. Their new album is okay, but I haven't heard so many stadium fillers in one album. And not one with the emotion of 'Up All Night'. |
Gee, U2 influence is all it takes not to like a band isn't it?
Aren't you all Radiohead fans? |
I never said I disliked the bands... I prefer The Killers now to how they used to be.
Razorlight have took a turn for the worst though. And what's Radiohead got to do with anything? |
I don't see how The Killers wouldn't be influenced by U2 seeing as they are influenced by every single other 80s pop rock band.

Bands turning into Coldplay are even worse
 Snow Patrol Embrace |
coldplay's gonna become the next U2...just wait ahha.

And although U2 suck, that's mainly because of Bono's vocals and pretty much everything about the guy (like he wanted to be Bob Geldof, but was unfortunately born retarded) |
I remember the first time I ever heard Coldplay. I remember it well. It was Jo Whiley`s Channel 4 TV show around 1998.
My reaction to it was pretty much 'oh look , it`s Radiohead with all the interesting bits taken out & Alan Partridge on vocals' |
I love Bono's voice, granted he is a douche, trying to be all likable and donating to charities, what the f*ck is his problem?... What an assh*le.
If you think personality is a good reason to not like someones music then fine, just keep in mind that Morrissey is a huge douchebag, and everyone here loves The Smiths. |
Not me, I want to stab that douche with a serrated edge sh!t covered dull butterknife

You`re always calling me up for saying all this stuff about hating U2 and saying that my opinion of Bono shouldn`t be a factor in judging the music , and yet Morrissey is just as big a prick as Bono and yet I like both The Smiths and his solo stuff. So you see , my U2 hating is all about the music , anything idiotic Bono does is just a bonus, |

And I don't think he has any long-term strategy, in that he announces that HIV medication being cheaply available in Africa is something that is extremely important to him - yet I've never heard of Bono or U2 providing research grants into HIV medication, or filing patents for HIV medication, or buying facilities to product HIV medication. And if they don't produce the medication themselves, what rights do they have to affect the price at which the medication is sold? U2 have considerable financial muscle which they could put behind campaigns in smart ways which I think could really change things. But I think they prefer just to make noise and get attention for performing charitable acts. Because Bono makes these decisions that take a lot of people's time and money and clearly doesn't seem to know half of what he's talking about, I think he's a complete ****. And I don't like the way he sings, or his lyrics. The EDGE is great, though. |
That is one problem I have with Bono though, he almost never lets The Edge talk in interviews, and I find him more interesting as a person.
He's one of my favorite guitarists as well. |
Well I would say Bono should stick to what he does best... but his music is **** aswell. So what exactly does he do well?
I'm not judging this based on his personality either. Even though thats a factor as to why I don't like his music. I just really dislike all his music. Everything is so bland and run of the mill. |

Probably learned from Madonna |
i think it's just bands turning into generic boring chord progressions with little inspiration. U2 is just one of the many that have done that...
|
If U2 are musics biggest influence now i'll actually kill myself.
|
I knew i didn't like the Killers for a reason :(
|
Coldplay will not be the next U2.
They will never write a song like "bullet in the blue sky" They'll never have a line like "It's no secret that a conscience can sometimes be a pest/It's no secret ambition bites the nails of success/Every artist is a canibal/every poet is a their/ all kill their inspiration and sing about the grief" RHCP are turning into U2...or allegedly the Eagles. |
