What do people think about all this? Personally I think its dreadful. When I heard At War With the Mystics a while a go I thought it sounded like mud and I didnt like it. I guess the loudness war is the reason why.

B*stards.

I think it`s become much more noticable lately.
I don`t have a problem with the quality as such but it`s really irritating when you are listening to an old CD and then when that one ends and you play a more recent CD it`s about twice the volume.

hehe yeah, although a lot of cd players now try n make up for it in one way or another. Usually not wothout a loss in quality though, which is somewhat annoying

Well there is a physical limit to what the ear can hear, there is also a limit to what the speakers can handle. Personally if you pop in a 20 year old CD then a new one the new one is louder.
