I'm glad to see the best music to ever exist is winning. I would also like to take this moment to tell everyone I am seeing bright eyes in March.

cardboard adolescent 02-08-2007 05:18 AM

Bright Eyes don't have shit on Polvo.

littleknowitall 02-08-2007 06:29 AM

Nine inch nails

DontRunMeOver 02-08-2007 08:04 AM

From what I've heard, Nine Inch Nails. Polvo were close competition, Bright Eyes is very pretty. The Get Up Kids were no competition and I've no idea who Carcass are.

Having never heard Polvo I can only guess they they don't write lyrics quite as well.

The Dave 02-08-2007 08:32 AM

Let's see Bright Eyes writes lyrics about how stupid Bush is, which I mean is totally original, writing a song about how stupid Bush is. I've never heard a band do that before. And when the lyrics aren't focusing on politics, they sound like an emo poetry, which means it appeals to all those suffering, confused, lost, unloved adolescent kids looking for someone who "understands" them.

Polvo does write lyrics, MTV and VH1, never really sponsored them though.
Their big thing they are famous for though is actually their music.

tdoc210 02-08-2007 08:13 PM

Oberst has more than one theme to his song lyrics. So don't make it seem liek he is the casualties or some **** band like that.

Kevorkian Logic 02-08-2007 08:29 PM

I knew I was going to get attacked because of my comment.
I was trying to make the point:
Polvo > Bright Eyes

Honestly, I wouldn't give a **** if Oberst had 200 themes to his song lyrics, it's the actual music that I care about. And if his lyrics are so great and what makes his band so awesome, Oberst should be in the poetry profession instead of the music profession.

Rrrright well if you knew you were going to get attacked (which you should have been), you at least know your argument it stupid.

I don't think anyone said Bright Eyes has original song ideas, that wouldn't be a selling point ever. Imagine: "This band is good because they wrote this song about a mountain rescue pelican that was raised by St. Bernards but gave up that life to be a dentist."

Thats stupid. And if you don't like lyrics maybe then you should live in an elevator. Bright Eyes, while faultable on many points, has some of the better lyrics in music today. And trying to pin them on minimal themes is foolish. How many careers are built solely on lvoe songs. Get Real.

A_Perfect_Sonnet 02-08-2007 08:44 PM

He actually used to write good songs, before he sucked, unlike the bands you enjoy, who just suck.

Merkaba 02-09-2007 12:31 AM

Bright Eyes wins comfortably.

I couldn't resist pointing this out, off the top of my head I can only think of 1song thats about bush and 1 other that throws in a bush reference to it, When The President Talks To God and To Love And To Be Loved, so out of all two hundred or song songs hes done, hes written two about bush. Obviously he bitches about them frequently.

As for trying to appeal to 'emo' kids and being 'emo' poetry, I won't even get into the fact you even use the word emo, but you've basically shown your full knowledge on the subject. Congrats on bashing something you havn't even listened to!

Disclaimer: as a mod i'm totally allowed to be a bitch and post in a lock thread and get the last word. :pimp:
