Do you download??? (cd, itunes, albums, tunes, iTunes)

Also the amount I download illegally far outnumbers what I download legally. So it's no skin off my nose if I lost it.

Because I'm not buying the CD in its entirety when I'm purchasing my downloads. I'm buying one or two songs at $0.99 each. I stated before, I prefer CDs so yes, obviously I'll buy the CD if I want more than one or two songs.

And by backing up, I meant the entire hard drive, rather than each song.

i can't afford to buy everything im interested in hearing (like i used to). So i sometimes download illegally to preview releases, then delete the files and buy on CD or Vinyl. Id love to buy a CD every week... but since i need to fund my own record label i cant. i will never pay for an mp3.

2. Do you feel that illegally downloading music takes away the artists rights? Is it stealing from the artist?

Its not taking away rights.. what it is taking away is the money and therefore the likelyhood of the band being able to afford to tour/release more. Releasing an album costs the band and costs the label. no matter how little they care about money, they need to at least break even in order to carry on... i know awesome bands (who toured like crazy) who have split because they could no longer afford to continue.

3. What are your opinions on the legality of downloading music?

Legal downloads are the future of the music industry no matter how much i detest the fact. people no longer care about artwork or album structure, and people no longer appreciate bands as artists or albums as art. Music is to most people, something to make life less boring. and people will spend as little as possible on something they care so little about.

5.Which downlaoding software do you use and why?

none. i have access to almost every upcoming release via upload sites. Even Sound Devastation releases appear up there. its disgusting... luckily most people who use them spend all their money on music anyway.

If I am downloading old albums I buy the record and then download the songs because records look cool and the downloads are technically legal.

There is so much great, free music out there on the web to listen to and to download, and other's where you get a lot for your money.

Check out theonedollarman dot net for example as an artist doing the direct to listeners thing, and any Myspace music site for that matter - many of those have free downloads. Emusic give a good, honest service for paid downloads in my opinion.

I'm not gonna answer all these questions. I'm too lazy. I download music, but if I can find the album I want at a store, I'd prefer buying it there rather than downloading it, at least for albums by artists that I'm really into. If I like an album enough after I download it, I try as hard as I can to find the album at a store. I never download albums before they are officially released.

As for what I use for downloading, I usually use uTorrent and get my torrents from a few different torrent sites.

I personally wouldn't be the musician I am today without downloading. Personally I think that napster was the best thing for music, thanks to that record companies have much less power and good music that is outside the mainstream can be heard through indie lables. I don't download unless its a band like AC/DC id rather spend the money on a fringe band who actually need my money.

I've given up on buying albums altogether. Ever since I bought an Ipod I simply have no use for CDs...:-/
