Albums that you own and like, but would still consider overrated.

Just put down the albums that you own, yet think have gotten way much more credit (for being good) than they deserve. Also say if you are thinking of either still keeping the album or getting rid of it, ya see?Keep your lists to a max of 10 albums.I'll comment on each album right below its title.

Here's my list to start things off:
(Alphabetical Order)

Killswitch Engage - As Daylight Dies.

- Their last 2 albums were great. How could they fail this badly on this one?

http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/revie...0_558_3876.jpg
Lamb Of God - New American Gospel.

- It's a good album, but not something good enough, strong enough and heavy enough to wanna play often. It pretty much shows nothing to prove that they are a unique and talented "death metal" band here.

Lamb Of God - Sacrament.

- This is a terrible sounding album that doesn't have many good songwriting qualities to "praise" all that much.I think God has called an end to this band making any more good albums, although I'll be interested in what their next album sounds like. After all, God is a very forgiving man.

Alanis Morissette - So-Called Chaos.

- Luckily I bought this album used and it has some decent songwriting shown throughout.Still, it's a big downstep from her earlier, (much) greater albums.

Motley Crue - Generation Swine.

- This is like a kids version of a Motley Crue album. It's got some pretty good songs, but the "Shout At The Devil" redo song is pretty bad and disappointing.

Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime II.

- Operation Mindcrime is an incredible album, while this "continuation" is pretty pathetic.I have (I believe) 5 or 6 Queensryche albums, including Operation Mindcrime, Empire and Tribe and I'd probally consider this album the worst of all Queensryche albums that I own.

Rush - Vapor Trails.

- This album is alright, but I think that Rush could've made a better album than this, like they have in the past.I mean, it's still a good album, yet also overrated.

Tool - 10,000 Days.

- This is Tool's worst album and it's been highly overrated by metal magazines and sites.I mean, I'm a huge Tool fan and get quite excited when each 7 or so years go by, knowing that a Tool album might finally come out, but just because it takes so long for the band to finally come out with an album doesn't mean that I'll call it "album of the year" if it's not worthy. This (almost surprisingly) is one of those albums that clearly is not worthy.

Nice talkin'.Now let's see your lists.

I semi-disagree with you. It is a good album, but it is Tool's worst album. Up against Tool's other work it almost sucks, but I think it really isn't that bad of a album. Though the song Jambi is way to overrated.

I just don't think hes given that album a proper listen, if he listens to the whole discography THEN puts that album on he'll see its truly a masterpiece.

I don't think Tool really have any single album masterpiece except for Lateralus. All the others in some way fell short. Undertow was short on ideas and development and was tired about 3 quaters in, Ænima was hurt by its mediocre ambient tracks and the general lack of unity (often it feels more like a compilation of writings over a period of years rather than parts written with the others in mind), and 10,000 Days just was not much of an evolution from Lateralus. Saying that, 10,000 Days definitely has enough memorable songs on it, it's just short of anything great. And Jambi's the best song on it! Tool reached their high point in 2001, I shouldn't think they'll ever emulate it. Next album'll probably be even worse.

White Lies 04-18-2007 05:07 AM

The Clash - London Calling

I do like, but it can get pretty boring tbh.

DontRunMeOver 04-18-2007 06:41 AM

Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and The Infinite Sadness.

A lot of this album is spent just plodding along.

All foo fighters are overrated. But I like listening to them once in a while.

And the Stands is a bit overrated. They got 5/5 stars in some magazines, I'd give them 3/5, easy listening. But not exactly close to perfection.

just for kicks 04-18-2007 07:26 PM

Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am, I'm Not

got way more credit then it deserved

Agreed. It has some good highlights but then songs like 'Death Or Glory' are just a bit pointless.

Until recently, I would have said Primal Scream - Screamadelica. But I've changed my mind on that one.

The Stone Roses - Self Titled I think is a tad overrated, it's a strong album but it does lack direction during the mid-section.

It's not like I said that it sucks and I hate it.I'm just disappointed with it, ya know?Obviously I still own it, so atleast I think that it is somewhat good and worth keeping.

It's alright and that's all that can really be said about it.:pimp:

Yeah, in a way I think it would've been better to take both albums' 10 or 12 good songs off of them and make it into one (good) album instead of the (mediocre) double.

I pretty much feel like this with all Beatles albums. I understand and agree that they are all wonderful pieces of art through composition and by pure influence. And I would love to own all of them just so I could be educated better - but, I have a hard time listening to most Beatles albums all the way through. Sometimes they fail to keep my attention. This is all changing just recently though as I have gone back and listened to my Beatles catalog. I am discovering a lot more about what I used to not understand so much.

It's a good introduction to the band & it's probably the easiest album of theirs to get into. But I can think of at least 5 Fall albums that are better.

come on eileen 05-04-2007 04:54 PM

Pink Floyd - The Wall

JoniOBrien 06-02-2007 07:08 PM

Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am, Thats What I'm Not. The Kooks album was much better.

I don't see how any of the albums fell short in the way you talked about it. First of all, yes, Lateralus was their best album, but also Undertow was great. /Enima is right up there with Lateralus in my opinion. The amibent tracks were great and I just love how Maynard's lyrics are on that album.
